Pamela Anderson wears no makeup at Paris Fashion Week after sharing tragic reason for ditching glam

Canadian-American actress Pamela Anderson is well-known for her looks. The blond bombshell started her career as a model before starring in TV shows like Baywatch, Home Improvement, and V.I.P. But Anderson, 56, redefines beauty standards after going bare-faced to Vivienne Westwood Paris Fashion Week. She has become her own glam team and describes this change as freeing. But her inspiration to embrace her natural appearance came after the death of her close friend.

Pamela Anderson Starts a “Natural Beauty Revolution”

But Anderson didn’t plan to skip on makeup during Fashion Week. That decision came spur of the moment. “I don’t know, something just kind of came over me and I was dressing in these beautiful clothes, and I thought, ‘I don’t want to compete with the clothes.’ I’m not trying to be the prettiest girl in the room,” she said. “I feel like it’s just freedom. It’s a relief.” She also explained that she doesn’t have a stylist or glam team. “I’m just kind of doing this, freestyle.[1]

Anderson quoted her mother, who used to warn her that one day she won’t want to wear makeup anymore. “And she’s right,” she said. “You have to challenge beauty sometimes. You know, if we all chase youth, or we’re all chasing our idea of what beauty is in fashion magazines and everything, we’re only going to be disappointed, or maybe a little bit sad. So I feel like this is it.

Her choice to go bare-faced has been praised by many fans and fellow celebrities, including Halloween actress Jamie Lee Curtis. “THE NATURAL BEAUTY REVOLUTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!” Curtis captioned an Instagram post featuring Anderson in a long yellow dress at the Isabel Marant show. “@pamelaanderson in the middle of fashion week with so many pressures and postures, and and and, this woman showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face. I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion.”

Anderson’s Biggest Beauty Secret

But some people don’t celebrate Pamela Anderson for starting a beauty revolution like Curtis does. Instead, they applaud a woman embracing her own looks and choices instead of following what someone else tells her to do. For some, Anderson’s bare-faced look is about expressing individuality and doing what feels comfortable, even if it’s unpopular. This can inspire others to be themselves in all aspects of their lives, not just with makeup. Even Anderson herself believes that beauty comes from confidence, not cosmetics or fancy treatments.

In an interview at the Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2024 show, Anderson was asked about her biggest beauty secret. “These days? ‘Don’t do anything,’” she said. “Wake up. Whatever’s happening is just happening. It’s all about self-acceptance. This is the chapter of my life I’m trying to embrace now…. Sometimes it’s challenging, and you just have to understand that you’re good enough and that you are beautiful.[2]

“I can’t wait to see myself old”

In August, Anderson opened up about the death of her friend and makeup artist Alexis Vogel, who passed away from breast cancer in 2019. After that tragedy, Anderson began to stop wearing makeup, feeling it was the right thing to do while mourning Vogel. Anderson had become known for her signature big blond hair and seductive makeup so cutting back on this routine felt “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too.”

Pamela Anderson enjoys going against popular trends, and she has faced her aging with a sense of humor. “I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone’s doing,” she explained. “I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older. And I’m kind of laughing at myself when I look at the mirror. I go, ‘Wow, this is really…what’s happening to me?’ It’s a journey.” [3]

Unlike many celebrities, Anderson is embracing her age and is not afraid of what she might look like in the future. “I can’t wait to see myself old,” she said on the podcast, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. “I always said I’d recognize myself when I was old in the mirror, I want to let my hair go kind of natural gray, put my little straw hat on, don’t wear makeup.” She added. “I mean, that’s my comfortable kind of state.[4]
