Camilla branded Meghan Markle ‘that minx’ and a ‘troublemaker’

Allegedly, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was “suspicious” of Meghan Markle and her intentions when she joined the royal family. This allegation was made by Tom Bower, who has authored several unauthorized biographies of famous people, including King Charles and Mohamed Al-Fayed. He recently reported that Camilla remained “tight-lipped” with her opinions on Markle but she silently stayed doubtful.

Camilla Was Reportedly Suspicious of Meghan Markle

From the outset, Camilla was suspicious about the adventuress from Los Angeles,” said Bower. “She found it hard to believe that Meghan would sacrifice her career and independence to serve silently as a team player devoted to the monarchy. But, as in all her conduct, Camilla remained tight-lipped. While watching Charles painfully believe that Harry was intent on publicly humiliating him, Camilla undoubtedly provided the comfort and good advice to reassure her husband that he had done the best he could.

Additionally, Bower claimed that Camilla had a secret nickname for Meghan Markle. “During those inevitably endless, tortured and inconclusive conversations, Camilla is the sort who would refer to Meghan as ‘that minx’ – the self-seeking troublemaker whose antics will always end in tears.” Bower is reportedly working on a biography about Markle.

In February, Queen Elizabeth II stated a “sincere wish” for 74-year-old Camilla to be known as “Queen Consort,” not “Princess Consort,” when King Charles succeeds the throne. Camilla Parker Bowles was influential in the public’s forgiveness of King Charles’ infidelity which hurt his ex-wife, Princess Diana, before she died suddenly in a car crash in 1997. But in 2005, Charles married Camilla and she became the Duchess of Cornwall. Keep in mind that Camilla was “the other woman” in Charles and Diana’s fraught relationship. However, their persistent love story as well as Camilla’s down-to-Earth style and humor won over many opinions. Charles and Camilla responded to the queen’s wish, saying they are “touched and honored” at the decision.

Declaring War

Bower called attention to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s silence in response to the queen’s announcement. “Perhaps the Sussexes’ deafening silence is Meghan’s way of declaring war. It is believed that [Meghan] has never liked Camilla, and I am sure the feelings are reciprocated.” He alleged that their silence was “deliberate” and an “insult” to the palace. [1]

Markle married Harry in May 2018, making her the Duchess of Sussex. In 2019, the couple had their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in 2019. But they departed from their royal duties in 2020 due to the intrusive nature of the media and racism toward Markle. The family now lives in Montecito, California. Soon after, they gave an interview with Oprah Winfrey. There, they explained their story in detail, including prejudiced comments about their child’s skin color and Markle’s intense isolation that led her to consider suicide. The palace responded to their allegations, calling them “concerning” and promised to address them in private. In June 2020, Markle and Harry welcomed their second child, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. [3]

She’s not the wicked stepmother”

When Harry did offer a public word four days after the queen’s announcement, he didn’t mention his stepmother or her new potential status. Instead, he spoke about his mother, the late Princess Diana. He praised her work involving HIV and AIDS. Additionally, he stated he felt an “obligation” to follow her lead in trying to reduce the stigma around the virus. “I could never fill her shoes.”

But Harry has spoken about Camilla in the past. At age 21 in September 2005, he said that he and his brother, Prince William “loved her to bits”. He continued, “She’s a wonderful woman and she’s made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing. Look at the position she’s come into. Don’t always feel sorry for me and William, feel sorry for her. We are grateful for her… we’re very happy to have her around.’

He added, “To be honest, she’s always been very close to me and William. But no, she’s not the wicked stepmother, I’ll say that right now.[3]

Camilla Takes One of Meghan’s Patronages

Most recently, Camilla has taken over one of the patronages that has previously been owned by Markle. From now on, Camilla is the patron of the National Theater, the first of Markle’s four patronages given to another royal family member. After Markle renounced her royal duties, these four reverted back to the queen.

“We are delighted to announce that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has become our Royal Patron,” the National Theatre said in a tweet. “The Duchess, a long-standing supporter for the arts, is a devoted fan of theater and champion of literature and drama.”

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has continued to support some UK charities, including Smart Works and Mayhew. At the same time, Kate Middleton has resumed one of the patronages that used to belong to Prince Harry, namely the patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League. [4]
