Preschool staff wonder where little boy’s mother is – the answer makes everyone laugh

Children are often the light of their parents’ lives, the apple of their eye. However, children also rarely have filters or self-regulation skills. Therefore, they can also be the cause of their parents’ embarrassment. One mom learned this when her son told his teachers that she wasn’t feeling well, due to a hangover.

Revealing a Hangover

A mom by the name of Jen went viral on TikTok for posting a hilarious video of her son. The video was sent to her by his teachers and posted to her account @daisy232713. She starts with, “when your son’s preschool teacher sends cute little videos.” Next, Jen cut to the clip of the moment her son told his teachers his mom had a hangover.

Charlie is asked by his teachers where his mom is. Charlie is then prompted to answer why she’s sick. “What does she have?” Asked his teacher. “She’s hungover,” he casually explained. Meanwhile, Charlie’s teachers can be heard laughing in the background.

Opening up on TikTok

Jen shared the video to TikTok, captioned, “I didn’t even drink last night.” It has gained a lot of attention, with nearly half a million likes and comments. While Jen wasn’t actually nursing a hangover, it’s not uncommon for parents to be hungover from time to time, while still needing to parent.

After all, being a parent is as tough as it is rewarding. Sometimes, parents need some adult time with friends or one another resulting in, at times, a shared bottle of wine or a few drinks. Although it’s fun to have a night out, the next morning can feel brutal. Pounding head, a stomach that won’t stop turning, and now, early risers ready for breakfast and attention. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who’ve had a hangover while also being a parent. Therefore, there’s some advice out there from parents who’ve made it through the day with a hangover.

Parenting Through a Hangover

Parenting through the day with a hangover will likely be much easier if you’re prepared ahead of time. This includes having things like fizzy water, Alka Seltzer, and Tylenol on hand. Some parents have even resorted to drinking Pedialyte. Preparation can also include things like having quiet activities planned for the next morning like play-dough, puzzles, coloring or other crafts, and felt board activities.

Other activities may include pretend play. Some examples are those in which laying down is an option. For example, playing a sick patient who desperately needs rest. Or a trip to the park. It likely sounds insane first thing in the morning but by the afternoon everyone in the house will appreciate a little fresh air and you can sit on a bench and supervise. Be aware that if you have an only child this may have the opposite effect because they may select you to be their park buddy.

Bend the Rules

Next, is nutrition. Nursing a hangover may be a good time to become a little relaxed on nutritional restrictions. Sometimes resorting to a bribe with a sweet treat may be a handy way to keep the noise level down until you start to feel human again.

During a hangover, the less effort is required, the better. Be sure to have plenty of snacks on hand, both for adults and kids. Additionally, a hangover may be a good time to serve up quick meals like cereal and fruit or frozen meals like chicken nuggets and veggies. Either way, it’s best to have a plan ahead of time, and do the meal prep in advance.

For parents not opposed to some screen time, it may be a good idea to make sure all devices and games are accessible and fully charged. Additionally, a hangover is a great day to have a family movie day. Plenty of easy snacks, snuggled up on the couch, and exerting very little effort. A day many people strive to have once in a while anyway.

Alternatively, parents who don’t want their kids playing video games or watching cartoons can turn to YouTube. YouTube has countless videos with hours and hours of calming music and cool visuals like fish and sharks or jungle cats that will in many cases keep them engaged and at an indoor voice level.

Another tip shared by parents who’ve at least once or twice nursed a hangover, it to remove batteries. There are plenty of kids’ toys that light up, make noises, sing, or speak. While they’re great for little ones, for adults, they can be annoying or obnoxious, if not downright creepy. Taking batteries out or removing any toys that, on a normal day, drive you insane is highly recommended.

Amusing Secrets

Although not every parent’s struggle is with a hangover, every parent knows what it’s like for their kids to reveal something less than ideal to others. Parents responded to Jen’s embarrassing moment, sharing some of their own. “My child told a woman that she would have been happy if her father didn’t have to be in jail every weekend. He worked as a correctional officer.” One parent shared. Meanwhile another said, “My son told his teacher that I never wash myself. I always waited until he fell asleep before showering.”

“My son told his preschool teacher that I drink when I drive. What I drank: Iced coffee from Starbucks.” Shared another. Lastly, “Mine told his teacher, he didn’t want to go home to that cr**k house. Our house was built in 1900 and plaster walls crack.”
