Sylvester Stallone Fights Back Tears in Emotional Tribute to Carl Weathers

Sylvester Stallone fought to hold back tears as he delivered a heartfelt tribute to his late Rocky co-star. Yesterday brought the sad news of Carl Weathers’ passing at 76. Known for his role as Apollo Creed in the iconic Rocky film series, Weathers had a distinguished career beyond the big screen.

I never could have accomplished what we did with ‘Rocky’ without him. He was absolutely brilliant,” said Stallone. “His voice, his size, his power, his athletic ability, but more importantly, his heart, his soul. It’s a horrible loss.”

As celebrities paid homage to the star, Stallone took to Instagram to share his sentiments. In a video posted on his account, Stallone expressed his profound grief over the loss of his dear friend. “We lost a legend yesterday. My life was forever changed for the better the day I met Carl Weathers. Rest in power and keep punching.” He said.

Standing behind a home bar, Stallone spoke with evident emotion, acknowledging Weathers’ significant impact on his life and career. Recalling their first encounter, Stallone praised Weathers’ greatness, admitting that he hadn’t fully realized the extent of it at the time.

“Hello everyone. Today is an incredibly sad day for me. I mean, I’m so torn up I can’t even tell you. I’m just trying to hold it in because Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life and my success. Everything about it, I give him incredible credit and kudos because when he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness but I didn’t realize how great.” He continued.

Emotional, and broken, the star poured his heart out

Struggling to contain his emotions, Stallone reminisced about their shared moments, particularly referencing a poignant painting that symbolized their last time together in the ring. He fondly remembered Weathers as a magical presence and expressed gratitude for being part of his life journey.

“It’s…it’s a horrible loss and I’m standing here in front of this painting because it was probably the last moment we were ever in the ring together and I’ll never forget it. He was magic and I was so fortunate to be a part of his life. So, Apollo, keep punching.” Stallone said.

Carl Weathers’ legacy extended far beyond his role as Apollo Creed
