We all have that favorite pair of jeans, that one pair that just fits like a glove. The pair that has outlasted the fanciest, the most expensive. No matter your age, chances are, a good pair of denim is a staple in your wardrobe. Well, we have bad news for you because according to “experts”, you should stop wearing jeans when you get to the age of 53. Yes, you read that correctly…
Now, we are not too sure why anyone would want to ban this wardrobe classic after a certain age. Everyone looks good in a well-fitting pair of jeans, right? Apparently, according to a 2016 survey by parcel delivery and return service firm CollectPlus, Jeans are just not the perfect pants. What? Let us explain what they found.
It’s not easy to find the perfect pair
While we have to disagree here, according to CollectPlus, people in the UK just can’t seem to find denim that fit them properly. According to them, some people spend up to five whole days just finding a pair that fits just right! That’s not all, they claim that the amount of stress caused by jeans shopping is not worth it. Apparently, 6 percent of shoppers end up in tears when they can’t find the right fit.
The study also revealed that most of us will try on at least three pairs before settling on the perfect pair of pants. Some people, however, need to try on at least six pairs! Apparently those who try on six or more while searching are one out of ten.
Out of the 2000 British people who partook in the study, a whopping 24 percent say they have never found that perfect, magical, just-right pair of jeans. We feel sorry for them because nothing quite feels as good as ye old faithful blue jeans! That said, most of the 2000 people also said that once you find your perfect pair, you stick with them for as long as you can!
One out of five people hold onto their jeans for five years
For the majority of those in the study, three years was the cut-off time. However, for five percent of the participants, they will hang onto their favorite pair for around ten years before finding a new pair. Jeans have taken the world by storm, and most of us will grab a pair for any occasion. The movies, a date, you name it. Some people even said they would wear their jeans to a funeral or job interview.
According to the study, unsurprisingly, women spend twice as much time shopping for denim pants as men. That means that females take up to eight and a half days looking for the perfect pair, while men need around four days.
So. What’s the deal with the age limit?
According to the research produced by CollectPlus, most people felt that you should stop wearing jeans at the age of 53. Yeah, we don’t get it either. Who in their right mind would suggest such a thing? We agree with Catherine Woolfe, Marketing Director at CollectPlus when she said:
‘It’s surprising to see our research reveals that many people think jeans are the reserve of the younger generation, suggesting that we should all put denim back on the shelf at the age of 53.
‘Denim is such a universal material and with so many different styles available it’s a timeless look that people of all ages can pull off.
‘This is highlighted by the fact that 55 year old George Clooney came third in our list of most inspirational male celebrity denim wearers and the ever-stylish Mary Berry can often be seen in a pair of jeans.
‘With so many styles available our online denim guide will guide you through the best cut for you whatever your age or shape.’

Wondering what other clothing items have an age shelf life? While we do not agree and think that everyone should wear exactly what they like, we found an interesting list on Everyday Health. Here’s what to chuck and what age:
Slogan T-Shirts
Apparently, by the time you are 30, you need to get rid of your message t-shirts. Hmmm, maybe?

First jeans, now skirts? Age 40 is the cut-off date for the micro-mini. According to the article, they just might not be age-appropriate.
Cleavage-showing-items
