Seth Rogen Doesn’t Want Kids Because Being A Parent “Does Not Sound Fun”

Parenthood is definitely not for everyone, and who are we to judge? As it turns out, Seth Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller, collectively decided that they would not be having any kids. Married for ten years, they are very comfortable with their decision, and Seth has come forward to explain exactly why.

Howard Stern, a father of three, interviewed the Pineapple Express star in 2021, and Rogen was pretty forthcoming with his reasoning. Famous for his role in movies such as Neighbors and Knocked up, the actor gets candid. “I wouldn’t be able to do all this work that I like,” Rogen said on The Howard Stern Show.

People are always like — it’s something I think I was uncomfortable answering this before — but they were like, ‘How do you do so much?’ The answer is I don’t have kids. … I have nothing else to do.” Stern told Rogen that to be a parent, “You can’t be narcissistic, you have to give yourself over to parenting, and they’ve gotta become the priority.” Rogen’s response? “Yeah, like, I don’t want that. That does not sound fun to me. And why? There are enough kids out there.”

Seth Rogen’s wife comes clean

Lauren has appeared in some well-known movies such as Superbad and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. As you can imagine, both parents have portrayed some rather interesting characters in their roles. Rogen mentions that she “wants kids even less than I do.” He added, “I could probably be talked into it. She’s like ‘no.’”

One of the biggest reasoning for them though would very likely be the freedom they have right now. They like their life the way it is. “I don’t know anyone who gets as much happiness out of their kids as we get out of our non-kids,” he said. “Like, we’re f**king psyched all the time! We’re laying in bed on Saturday mornings smoking weed, like watching movies naked. If we had kids, we could not be f**king doing this.”

Are they so wrong for choosing this path? As a parent, I can tell you it’s a massive leap to take, and you better damn well be ready for what that entails. Parenthood is not for everyone, and that’s totally ok. It doesn’t change my opinion of any of my friends. If they feel it’s a no, they should confidently be able to follow their decided path.

It turns out that Rogen’s parents are also pretty comfortable with the idea, standing by their son and daughter-in-law’s decision. The Knocked Up star’s father, Mark Rogen, said: “We try not to pressure them. We think they’ll make the right decisions for themselves.”

This is not the first time Seth Rogen has voiced his view on having kids

In the heat of the pandemic in 2020, Rogen told Jimmy Kimmel via Zoom that quarantine without kids around was an absolute breeze for him and his wife. “I will be laying alone on my death bed, having not talked to anyone for, like, 15 years, and I’ll be like ‘it was worth it.’”

40-year-old Seth is also just way too busy to take on the parenting scene, being a successful actor, writer, and producer. It seems fair to assume that he has made a concerted effort when deciding not to become a father. As much as we are bombarded with stars and their perfect kids, it’s quite refreshing to see a couple stand up and go against the expected norm, to be completely honest.

Other interesting ventures

Seth Rogen also has a keenness for pottery and if you follow his Instagram, you’ll see that the star is rather talented at the craft. He not only makes decorative pieces but has also made a line of products used as rolling trays and ashtrays.
