‘Someone up there really wants you to be a mom. There are THREE heartbeats here.’: Mom welcomes rainbow triplets

Natasha O’Grady and her husband Ryan were blessed with triplets earlier this year. However, their journey to having three healthy babies was not an easy one. Pregnancy is supposed to be a joyous time, full of hope. Sadly, the experience for Natasha was filled with anxiety and doubt.

So, in January of 2019, Natasha and Ryan had been dating for 10 years. They were ready to try and have a child. After a short time of trying, Natasha was pregnant. So, the happy couple spread the good news to their friends and family. However, the joy was short-lived. Natasha’s ultrasound appointment revealed there was no heartbeat.

We were dealt the devastating news that our dreams were over. I can honestly say, never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be in that position. It was as never something that had even crossed my mind.

So, needing a distraction from the devastating news, Natasha came up with an idea. She told her husband she wanted to move their wedding forward by a few months.

The truth is, it was the worst decision we could have made. I absolutely threw my heart and soul into trying to plan an entire wedding myself in less than 3 months, whilst also battling with the aftermath of our loss.

Another Loss

Fast-forward another year, around the exact same time, Natasha fell pregnant again. She said it was difficult for her to remain positive during that time. Because the previous loss was still a painful memory. However, she and Ryan did their best to wear a smile and hope for the best. March of 2020 was going to be a better time for them, right? They had no idea one day they would be the proud parents of triplets.

Sadly, I was wrong. I collapsed at home and I wasn’t breathing properly. My body went into total shock as my body rejected the pregnancy,” she remembers. “As I was taken out on a stretcher by the paramedics, my body was trembling and I passed out. I was taken into theatre as I began to profusely bleed and they needed to operate immediately.

This loss spun Natasha into a depression that was hard for her to come back from. She felt like she had failed as a woman and a mom.

It was extremely traumatic both mentally and physically, and I began to believe I may never become a mum.”

News of Triplets

The third time Natasha fell pregnant was anything but a celebration. No one was phoned, no emails or texts were sent. The couple kept the news to themselves, in case it didn’t work out again.

When I fell pregnant for the third time, there was no celebration hugs or jumping up and down in the bathroom. The sheer wave of panic just engulfed us again and that is the sad reality of pregnancy after loss, you truly believe it’s going to be taken away from you at any moment.’

However, Natasha’s good news was here to stay. So, she went to her ultrasound appointment, expecting more bad news than the previous appointments had brought. Instead, she was shocked to hear she would be having triplets!

‘I’m sorry, I really don’t know how to tell you this.’ The doctor’s hand shook as she twisted the monitor screen in our direction. ‘Someone up there really is looking down on you. Someone up there really wants you to be a mum. There are THREE healthy heartbeats beating here.’
