Mom Shut Down 14-Year-Old Daughter’s Social Media Accounts With 1.7 Million Followers

Being a teenager is tough work, but raising a teen can be even tougher. There are so many lessons to teach about life, but as technology has progressed, the job of a parent has become one worthy of a superhero. Social media has made such an impact on our society, so much so that anyone can become an influencer. But, it inevitably has an impact on one’s emotional well-being. One mother decided to take things into her own hands. So, she shut down the page of a well-known TikTok star, who was also her 14-year-old daughter.

Social Media Shut Down: Mum Shuts Down Teen’s TikTok Account

Valentino Rios is a well-known TikTok user. Well, she used to be. She is 14 years old and her family is from Brazil. Her account had 1.7million followers, which is a considerable amount. But her mother had grown weary of the feedback her videos were getting, but even more so how her daughter was conforming to all of the trends and basing her character on what her fans had to say about her content. Fantastico had an interview with Fernand where she explained how she disliked the posts she found on her daughter’s account, and this is what inspired her to delete the account. She said

“I don’t think it’s healthy even for an adult and much less for a teenager to base her self-discovery on online feedback. It’s hard enough for you to find out who you are at 14 years old. When there are two million you’ve never seen in your life thinking they know you, it’s even more dangerous. It’s easier to lose yourself.”

Fernanda does not want her daughter to conform to the trends, and let her grow up thinking that is what she is worth. She adamantly said: “I don’t want her advertising flammable polyester clothing made in China. I don’t want my brilliant daughter doing her daily dances like a trained baboon. It’s a sad generation for which this counts as fame.”

Valentino’s Fans Check-in

When Valentino’s account was shut down, many of her followers messaged Fernanda to make sure she was alright.  She went from having a great social media presence to posting nothing at all, and her account had been shut down, with no warning at all.

Fernanda said, “I spent the week reading from strangers that I was narcissistic, selfish, that I had ended my daughter’s dreams, that I was jealous of her. I read this while she slept peacefully and happily clinging to my side, impervious to the poisons of the Internet, stage for cowards.”

Fernanda is the mother of a minor, so she deleted the account, regardless of the dismay of Valentino’s fans. She admits that her actions might seem “radical” to some, but they were what she thought was the right thing to do as Valentino’s mother. She said: “Radical? Yes. And necessary, too.

She also went on to explain that her reasons were not narcissistic. As some of Valentino’s fans had accused her of, but rather to protect her daughter’s development. In particular how she sees and identifies herself. She is willing to make hard decisions for her daughter’s well-being. She told Valentino that her job as her mother is ‘not to be your buddy.’

She understands that her daughter might not understand her reasoning. At least until she had grown up a little more. She said: “I decided to delete her TikTok and Instagram account. Boring, I know, but our role as a mother is not to be your little friend and that you will only understand in hindsight.”

Valentino Was Not Happy

When young Valentino went onto her phone, only to find her account had been shut down by her mother, she was not very happy. Fastastico asked her how she felt about her mother’s decision, and she said: ‘I obviously wasn’t very happy. I got quite angry.’

Regardless, she has stated that she is not sure when she will make her return, fearing that it will escalate the situation. The interviewer for Fantastico asked her if she will make a return to TikTok or any other platform for that matter, and Valentino’s response was: “I’ll choose. At the moment, I don’t want to. It’s going to be something that’s only going to get in my way and it will only make it worse.”

Since the above statement was made, Valentino has a new social account here.
