Meghan Markle Opens Up About Struggle of ‘Not Being Able to Afford’ Her $14M Mansion

In some people’s eyes, Meghan Markle has become the new Princes Diana of the royals. Although, she and Prince Harry managed to escape the pressures of Buckingham Palace after stepping down from their royal duties. Recently, Meghan admitted the ex-royals shared concerns over their financial status after leaving the UK. She and Harry were apparently unable to afford their dream home at first, which cost a whopping $14.65million.

Meghan Markle and Harry’s dream home struggles

Where most people are worried about paying their rent each month, the former royal couple, Meghan Markle and prince Harry were concerned that they would not be able to buy their dream home which cost $14.65million. They had moved away from their duties at Buckingham Palace, as well as the financial support they received from the Monarch. In an interview with The Cut, Meghan divulged their financial concerns, and how they were unable to support the royal lifestyle they were accustomed to.

As they searched for their dream home, outside of the U.K, they kept coming across a villa-type house, known as the Montecito mansion. “We were looking in this area (Montecito, California) and this house kept popping up online in searches,” she said to the reporter for The Cut. Meghan Markle described the mansion as “a classic Tuscan villa, a Napa vineyard, and a manicured Beverly Hills country club decorated with careful, considered coastal tones for a casual air — the home equivalent of billionaires dressing down in denim.”

No job, no $14,65million house

They fell in love with the house after just seeing the pictures. But, Meghan reported being apprehensive to view it as neither she nor Harry, had jobs. “We didn’t have jobs, so we just were not going to come and see this house,” she said. “It wasn’t possible. It’s like when I was younger and you’re window shopping — it’s like, I don’t want to go and look at all the things that I can’t afford. That doesn’t feel good.”

In the end, everything worked out for Prince Harry and Meghan. The Cut stated they had “signed $25 million Spotify deal, and a reported $100 million Netflix deal.” This enabled them to buy their dream home after all.

Meghan Markle went on to explain what first attracted them to the house when they viewed it. “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees,” recalled Meghan. “See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’ And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.’” She added, “We did everything we could to get this house. Because you walk in and go …Joy. And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”

Opinions on the internet

Many people who read the interview Meghan Markle had with The Cut were not impressed by her concerns. One person Tweeted: “Meghan ‘We didn’t have jobs I don’t want to go look at All The Things I can’t afford’ Poor Meghan, how terrible, she had a hard time affording her $14M+ mansion. #MeghanMarkle takes narcissism to a whole new level. She makes Gemma Collins seem likable. #DuchessofMontecito.”

Another person tweeted about the rest of the world struggling with basic costs. They commented: “When people can’t pay rent, high gas price, & can’t buy median-priced houses. Sounds like luxury than struggles.” Another person called Meghan out for being entitled, “How clueless [are] the royals? STRUGGLING over a $14.5M house! Wow, such depraviry they have to face. Entitled?”
