Father Responds To Nasty Comments About Daughters’ Homecoming Outfits

Women have been objectified for centuries. They have been told what to wear and what to do for so long. Women are no longer subjected to silly rules of what they can and cannot wear. However, that doesn’t mean they have escaped the judgment of societal norms. Matt Austin is well known on screen, and his social media had to come to the defense of his two teenage daughters. People had made some nasty comments about their choice of homecoming outfits.

Father ridiculed for daughter’s homecoming outfits

Matt Austin has a face that is well-known in Orlando. He is an anchorman for News 6 Orlando, and he has a large 16k following on Facebook. Through his platform he includes posts about his family. He has two teenage daughters who recently went to their homecoming dance. Matt posted a picture of his girls all dressed up and ready to go. The caption of the Facebook post read: “My daughters look a little too good on homecoming night. Believe it or not, they’re even more beautiful on the inside.” Instead of the usual, “wow, they’re so beautiful” comments, Matt received some nasty messages about his daughter’s homecoming outfits.

One of his followers commented: “I have two grown and married daughters. These outfits are not prom appropriate. Those are what women wear to clubs when they are single looking for some action”. A second wrote, “I don’t think I would be dressed like that around my father and he would be okay with that. It’s crazy! And I’m from the Caribbean. Those girls are too young to be dressing provocatively, they should have respect for themselves.” And a third said, “So sad that parents think it’s okay to send the young ladies out with everything showing.”

Enough is enough!

Some users had the audacity to say that his daughters are “distracting” the boys with their homecoming outfits. This was enough for Matt. He had to make a reaction post to all of the hurtful comments. So, he took to TikTok to share his frustration over the mindset of some of his followers.

In the video, he started off by saying his girls are not distracting, and it infuriates him when people say so. These girls need to dress so they don’t distract the boys. Or even worse, they’re dressing in a way in which they’re asking for it, he said mimicking the nasty comments made by his followers.

Matt’s main emphasis was on accountability. He says his daughters should not be blamed for the boys in school getting distracted, or for preempting sexual harassment just by the choice of their homecoming outfits. “Let’s get something crystal clear now. It’s not my daughter’s job to make sure your son is focused in school,” he said. “Also not her job to dress hideous enough to where your son doesn’t assault her,” he continued. “It’s your job to not raise a pervert with no self-control.”

After his first statement, Matt did admit that he prefers his daughters dressed in “snuggies,” but that it’s not up to him. “If it were up to me it would be 24/7 Snuggies.” However, Matt is aware that his daughters are teenagers now. If he were to make rules about their outfits, then they would, “A. They’ll start to hate me for arbitrary rules. B. They’ll start to lie to me or C. Maybe even worse, that it’s okay for a man to tell them what to wear because they look too good, and that ain’t happening, Karen.
