Dad Gives Son 40 Acres for 13th Birthday

Every parent wants what’s best for their children. Furthermore, going to great lengths ensures they’ll have a bright future. Faheem Muhammad is a great example of a parent who stopped at nothing for their child’s future.

Gifting a Spectacular Birthday Gift

Recently, 35-year-old Faheem Muhammad, who lives in the Los Angeles area, gifted his 13-year-old son 40 acres of land as a birthday present. The 40 acres sit in Boulevard, California, a rural high desert Census-Designated Place that runs along the border of Mexico. Moreover, the area is rich in tribal history, originally home to the Kumeyaay. Additionally, boasting open and spacious land, “Little Faheem” has numerous possibilities. “ATV camps, camps … resorts, family homes. Stuff like that — Airbnb. You could put a windmill there if you want to,” said the young teenager.

Inspiration for Generations

Faheem Muhammad embodies a good male role model for young black children. He’s become a wealthy family man, with ample resources at his disposal. As a result, he’s given his son Faheem Ra’id Muhammad an incredible gift. A gift he describes as a “rite of passage”. “After slavery, of course, we were supposed to get 40 acres and a mule,” Muhammad said. “We’re not crying about the fact that somebody didn’t give us what they promised. If this is something that we desire to have, we go and make it happen.” Muhammad was referring to the Special Field Order No.15 .

Reparations and Broken Promises

The Civil War took place between 1860 and 1865. Consequently, more than 600,000 soldiers lost their lives, and thousands more were left permanently injured. The war began because the Northern and Southern United States had differing ideas over the importance of human rights vs. slave ownership for the sake of the economy. Shortly before the war ended, Union General William T. Sherman issued the order to confiscate Confederate-owned coastline property. Consequently, around 400,000 acres was confiscated and split into 40-acre properties. Then dispersed among newly freed black families.

Creating His Own Empire

Despite that decree not being upheld, Muhammad successfully made a beautiful life for himself and his family. The hard-working father was the Director of Security for Combs’ Enterprises and is currently Co-Founder and CIO of Oasis Investment. OASIS is a real estate company focusing on “transforming low-income and underserved communities.” “A lot of times you hear about gentrification where they come in and they make these places nice to live in,” Muhammad explained. “Our concept was to come in and make them nice places to live but make them nice places to live for the people that already lived there.” OASIS has also partnered with NHSC and created the Build Program, both are designed to give African Americans access to legal information, renovation skills, and the ability to become homeowners.

Giving Hope to Communities

Thus, with hard work and incredible entrepreneurial skills, Muhammad created an empire of wealth and success. So much so that he’s taken on a huge role; raising capital, buying land, and renovating homes. OASIS is on a mission to keep African Americans in their own neighborhoods rather than being forced out by gentrification. Additionally, the investment company works with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to get a Regulation A, Tier 2 real estate fund.

Investments for Tomorrow

Wanting to give his son a foundation of self-sustainability, he gifted the land on March 16, “Little Faheem’s” birthday, as part of nearly 200 acres he purchased in 2021. “It would just be better to learn how to deal with that kind of stuff over real estate, land ownership and home ownership.” Said Little Faheem, regarding the investment into his future. According to Forbes, Real Estate is third on the list of top 5 ways to successfully create generational wealth.
