Photography is an important part of every wedding ceremony. Even if it’s just one picture of the couple holding hands and captured with a random smartphone, it’s a visual memory the couple would cherish for life. However, every couple deserves to have a proper wedding shoot and we love to see it!
One photographer, however, stood out of the millions doing creative shoots by having her newlyweds pose underwater like a mer couple — while still wearing their wedding outfits. [1]
Kimber Greenwood is a creative photographer based in Florida, and she chose the Kelly Springs in Apopka, Florida, as the setting for her dream shoot. Underwater wedding photography is not a new concept, but this particular photo captures the tricky essence of a “fantasy in reality.”
Newlyweds Kissing Underwater receives honorable mention
With a Nikon D750 camera, she captured the couple smooching underwater like Ariel and her prince in a setting that nicely mimicked the dreamy effect. The newlyweds were barefoot and looking a bit disheveled, adding a hint of wildness to a brilliantly perfect shot.
Greenwood entered her photo in the 2019 Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition and it received an “Honorable Mention” in the Underwater Art category.
Greenwood’s story behind the shot read: “This image features a bride and groom. It was photographed at Kelly Springs, in Apopka, FL. I used a Nikon d750, 17-35 mm lens, and Ikelite housing. My settings were 1/125, f2.8, and ISO 500. This is a two image composite. The current was intense so my assistant was holding me in place! I love underwater portrait work and this session was a dream come true!”

The Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition is one of the most prestigious photography contests in the world. Thousands of photographers have kick-started their careers from entering amazing nature shots captured underwater. Every year, amateurs and professionals from over 78 countries enter the competition across a wide range of categories, and there’s always something to suit everyone’s skills. Five persons are awarded top places in each category, with two honorable mentions.
$85,000 in sponsor prizes have been awarded, placing the Ocean Art prize among the highest-valued in the world.
