‘My 6-Year-Old Nephew Ruined My Wedding By Wearing White’

For many people, their wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime special day. As such, they have they want to the day to be perfect. From the location to the food served, people may have long-held preferences about them. One of the most significant parts of that may be the dress code for the special day and the people invited. So, it is understandable and heartbreaking if something does not go according to plan. However, people should always remember that hardly anything goes to plan perfectly in life!

As per the latest wedding etiquette, no guest is supposed to attend the ceremony in white. After all, it is the bride’s color, and the ceremony is her special day. Of course, it is an unspoken rule, but whoever turns up wearing that shade is considered to be disrespectful and rude. Sometimes, though, some special guests can be considered exceptions. Just a few months ago, Reddit witnessed a case like this where a bride was left in tears because one of the groom’s guests turned up in white. But, before you choose sides, read on to see who the guest was.

A Lamentable Wedding

The post, given by the groom, explains that he is a 28-year-old who recently married his 26-year-old partner. Their wedding ceremony was wonderful. However, the wedding ceremony for the bride was devastating. Not only did it not follow the plans, but it also broke the central dress code etiquette. As such, the bride was left extremely disheartened. What made the matter worse was that the bride was already adamant about maintaining strict dress codes for the event. The groom only got to know of the incident as he came across his bride sobbing inside the bathroom.

He writes: “The reception was going well until I noticed my wife walking over to the bathroom with her face held in her hands. Obviously, I could tell my wife was upset as we’ve been together for three years now and I can tell when she’s upset. Once I got to the bathroom I knocked on the door and informed my wife that it was me at the door. After a few minutes, I heard the door unlock and open. When I got in I saw my wife sitting on the floor with mascara running down her cheeks. After confronting her she explained it was because their nephew – his sister’s son – was wearing ‘white jeans and a white bow tie.

The Internet’s Reaction

In response, the groom explained to her nicely that she was overreacting and should forget about it and enjoy the reception. He even saw her message to her sister to get help with fixing her makeup so she could enjoy the remainder of the night. However, the matter did not end there. The groom later saw his wife talk to his sister. Later, he learned that his wife had requested his sister to leave if she had not brought a change of clothes for the child. Hearing this, the groom had also told her he would be leaving with his family in such a case.

At the time of the post, the groom had ended by saying that the wife had been living at her mother’s place following the reception. Moreover, the couple had not interacted, even over calls, ever since. The Redditors were mostly supportive of the groom’s reaction. One comment read: “It’s a six-year-old in a bowtie. Did she think people would confuse him for the bride?” Another one adds: “If the sister was the one wearing a white dress, or maybe a teenage niece, I might agree with you. But it’s a six-year-old boy in white jeans and a bowtie.

At the same time, one person supported the bride as they saw a potential malicious intent behind the act: “I think the bride is upset with the parents [for] using their child to blatantly flout the rules.” That can possibly be the case. However, even then, can a six-year-old boy’s attire make people think the bride is being upstaged? Probably not. Let us know what you think about it!
