15 Inappropriate Questions Women Are Constantly Asked (But Men Aren’t)

Life is weird, but human beings can be even weirder. Especially when it comes to the information that some people seem to think they deserve to know. It’s as if the filters that some people have that remind them it’s none of their business get shut down when it comes to women. They get asked some of the darndest things that, for some reason, men do not. Why? This is a conundrum that might never be answered. Here are 15 examples of said intrusive questions.

1. “Have You Asked Your Husband Yet?

We have evolved as a species in some ways, but for some reason, society still thinks wives need their husband’s permission for so many things. Reddit user, u/IceCreamToiletPaper, wrote: “‘Did you ask your husband?’ He’s my husband, not my father. I don’t ask permission.”

2. Why Don’t You Smile More?

This one grates the nerves of women all over the planet. Reddit user, u/missshrimptoast, wrote: “A classic: Why don’t I smile more?”

3. Do You Need Those Glasses?

When a woman wears glasses, some people just can’t help but ask if they’re necessary. Then, to make matters worse, they tell them they would look better without them. Reddit user, u/venushoneytrap, wrote: “This probably isn’t an every-woman question, but I’ve seriously been asked, ‘Do you need those glasses?’ With the follow-up: ‘You would look so much prettier without them. Have you thought about contacts?'”

4. Do All Your Kids Have the Same Father?

Then, people think that all women have been sleeping around, having children from one man to the next. Even if that were the case, why do people presume to think they have the right to ask? Reddit user, u/itsalloriginal, expressed how she was asked this by a colleague of all people: “I get asked if all of my kids are from the same husband. A coworker in a professional industry asked me that. I don’t think my kids’ dad has ever been asked anything even remotely similar.”

5. Are You Driving Alone?

Most women might not be physiologically as strong as men, but that doesn’t mean they’re not capable of driving alone. One person expressed: “Driving a few miles upstate to visit a friend, the gas station clerk asked if I was driving alone.”

6. Did You Plan Your Pregnancy?

Reddit user, u/airlii, wrote about how a colleague asked if her pregnancy was planned. “Whenever I was pregnant, I’d get asked, ‘Was it planned?!’ Sorry random male coworker, I don’t think that’s your business. My husband was never asked if our kids were planned.”

7. Are You On Your Period?

This is something every single woman can relate to. It’s almost as if women are not allowed to show their humanity without people assuming they’re on their period. There are millions of similar entries, but Reddit user, u/bunnygoats, is one example: “Any time I get even slightly irritated or show any sort of emotion that isn’t pure goddamn joy, I get hit with the, ‘Are you on your period?'”

8. When Are You Having Your Next Baby?

Women are not simply baby-making machines. They also have their dreams and aspirations. But, some people just don’t seem to get it. One person wrote about how they get asked: “It looks like you’ve lost the baby weight, right? When are you having another one??”

9. Why Don’t You Dye Your Grey Hair?

Aging is a phenomenon that no one can escape. However, women are put under immense societal pressure to maintain their youthful complexion. That includes dying their grey hair as if it is something atrocious. For example, Reddit user, u/Sushisando, wrote: “Why I don’t color my gray hair. My doctor told me my face looked too young for gray hair. I waited an hour and paid money to get lectured on my appearance.”

10. Is Their Dad Babysitting?

For some reason, people like to think that when a dad is looking after the kids, he’s babysitting. But, in reality, a dad’s job is to parent, not babysit. Reddit user, u/MILisacunt, expressed: “Whenever I’m without my kids, people always ask if their dad is ‘babysitting.’ No. He’s just, you know, parenting.”

11. Why Aren’t You Married?

Then, some women just do not like the idea of marriage, and that’s okay. But, society needs to catch up to this concept. Reddit user, u/Miss_Behavior, wrote: “As a woman in her 40s, I get asked, ‘Why haven’t you gotten married?’ Or, the more hurtful version: ‘Why didn’t anyone want to marry you?'”

12. Can We Join In?

Reddit user, u/Staphyl0coccusAureus, is a lesbian. For some reason, she and her partner get asked intrusive questions about their sex life. However, two men in a relationship probably do not get the same questions. “I’m a woman dating a woman, and men are always asking to join us in our bedroom. For some reason, I feel like this doesn’t happen to two men who are in a relationship.”

13. Why Did You Put Your Career First Over Having Kids?

The modern world is a cruel place for career-driven women. For example, if a woman chooses to focus on her career, people seem to think they will regret it. Reddit Udser, u/not_doing_that, said: “Do men get asked why they put their career before having babies? And then, do they get told they’ll regret it? Because I’m real sick of that one.”

14. What Size Bra Do You Wear?

Shocker – some women have big breasts. But, that doesn’t mean you need to know their bra size. Reddit user, u/cmccaggiano, wrote: “‘What size bra do you wear?’ ‘Why are your boobs so big?’ ‘Isn’t that shirt too revealing?’ All of these questions were in response to my 34GG boobs before I got breast reduction surgery.”

15. Are You Sick?

Reddit user, u/Squirrel625, wrote that people think she’s sick whenever she doesn’t have makeup on. So, she wrote: “On days I don’t wear makeup, I always get asked if I’m sick. Telling them, ‘No, this is just my face’ ends the conversation pretty quickly.”
