Walmart and Panera Bread Agree to Pay Settlements. Do you Qualify?

Two major companies, Walmart and Panera Bread, have recently agreed to pay a class action settlement in class-action settlements, potentially entitling customers like you (unless you’re celiac, don’t eat Panera if you can’t do gluten…) to compensation. If you’ve shopped at Walmart or ordered food for delivery through Panera Bread during specific time frames, you may be eligible for a payout. Here’s what you need to know:

Walmart’s Class Action Settlement

Walmart’s class action settlement alleged that the retail giant inflated prices on certain weighted groceries and bagged fruit items.1 These items include beef, chicken, ham, pork, turkey, veal, seafood, as well as various types of citrus, such as navel oranges, organic oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines. The lawsuit brought forward accusations of misleading pricing practices, including falsely inflating weights at the register and mislabeling products. The settlement covers purchases made between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024.

Additionally, discrepancies were found in labeling bagged produce and clearance items, resulting in customers paying more than they expected. Customers who believe they’ll qualify for compensation have until June 5 of this year to submit a claim. Claimants with receipts can receive up to 2% of the total cost of their purchases, capped at $500, while those without receipts may claim $10 to $25, depending on the number of items purchased. It’s important to note that the settlement has not yet been fully approved, with a final hearing scheduled for June 12, 2024. That said, you can file a claim here

Panera’s Class Action Settlement

Panera Bread has a $2 million class action settlement over alleged misleading pricing and delivery fees. The lawsuit claimed that Panera Bread raised prices on delivery orders without proper disclosure to customers. This occurred between October 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021. The settlement offers compensation in the form of vouchers or electronic cash payments to the affected customers.2

Customers must provide proof of purchase, such as the phone number they used to place the order or an email address confirmation to prove they took part. Make sure you provide the necessary documentation to qualify for compensation before the claim deadline (June 10, 2024). Eligible customers who ordered food for delivery between October 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021.
