Seaside Town Enraged After Nudists Flood Their Beaches

Families flee as public sex acts overrun Suffolk shoreline. Corton Beach, once celebrated for its pristine sands and peaceful atmosphere, now sits at the center of a growing crisis. Outraged residents recently held a community meeting to demand action against nudists who they claim have turned their cherished coastline into a no-go zone for children.

When Nudists Cross the Line

The controversy doesn’t center on simple nudity. UK law permits naturism. Local officials say the problem lies with the explicit sexual acts occurring in broad daylight. The situation only worsened until over 100 residents gathered at Corton Community Centre to voice their concerns and propose solutions.

During this meeting, residents shared quite a few disturbing experiences. One attendee said they were being followed by a man who was in a state of arousal. Another witnessed a man provocatively expose himself. These encounters now prevent many locals from visiting the beach. Women and families avoid the area, fearing what they might be exposed to along the “nude beach”.

“It’s got nothing to do with nudity whatsoever,” explains Duncan Gooch, sales manager at the nearby Azure Seas retirement village. The complex features over 100 holiday and permanent cabins worth up to £200,000 ($250,000), sitting on 15 acres of woodland overlooking the beach.

“It is the behavior of some who go there,” Gooch continues. “A group thinks it’s OK to engage in lewd acts on the beach, openly in front of others. It is blatant. Some are exhibitionists and we take offense. This activity goes on from dawn until dusk. Many people won’t go to the beach anymore because of it.

Community Backlash Builds

Tension escalated when local authorities installed a warning sign. It declared: “Corton Beach is not a naturist beach. Lewd behavior will not be tolerated and may be recorded by CCTV and reported to the police.” Someone removed the sign shortly after installation, which inflamed the already heated situation.

A parish council spokesperson defended their decision: “Businesses overlooking the beach report substantial financial losses attributed to these behaviors. The parish council must support and protect the parishioners and businesses within its jurisdiction.”

Officials later clarified: “The sign stated that the beach was not a naturist beach. It aimed to clarify that it no longer holds designation as such since people can practice nudism anywhere. The council recognizes nudism as a legal activity. The sign warned individuals whose lewd activities distress other beach-goers.”

Frustrated residents contact law enforcement but find their complaints go nowhere. “We have complained to the police and they say they will look into it,” Gooch explains. “But they tell us there’s nothing we can do. They give callers who complain a reference number.”

Not Just a Local Problem

Other UK coastal locations face similar issues. Shellness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, a picturesque location serving as a designated nudist beach since the 1970s, struggles with inappropriate behavior.

Stuart Haylock, a 50-year-old former Royal Navy serviceman working near the beach, observes troubling conduct. “Some think that because it’s a naturist area it should function as a porn set,” he states. “I’ve seen middle-aged men behaving inappropriately in recent weeks.” Haylock distinguishes between genuine nudists and troublemakers: ” The actual naturists are lovely people. They want to sunbathe naked without any interaction with others.”

Another Shellness local reports calling the police “a number of times” about similar issues. “These people use the area for sex. They show no concern about children possibly coming around. Many stay for days, parking in the nearby lot for a week.”

Fighting Back Against Disruptive Nudists

Lowestoft MP Jess Asato hosted the community meeting about Corton Beach and acknowledged the frustration. “From the huge turnout, residents are fed up with this behavior,” said Asato. “It prevents them from enjoying our beautiful seaside.” The gathering generated practical solutions including enhanced CCTV coverage, clearer signage, strategic fencing, and increased police patrols during warmer months.

Asato commits to working with authorities on these measures. “I hope to work with Suffolk Police and East Suffolk District Council on improved CCTV, signage and patrols,” she states. She also plans to lead a ‘Reclaim Our Beach’ walk and litter-pick to encourage safe public use of the area and help families feel comfortable returning.

A Beach with a Nude Beach Past

Understanding the current conflict requires examining history. Officials designated Corton Beach for nudists until 2009, then revoked that status. Despite this change, the area’s reputation as nudist-friendly persists, especially during summer.

District Councillor Paul Ashdown addresses the situation: “Most people know that sunbathing nude on the beach breaks no laws. But some residents witness lewd behavior which offends them. Such activities should not occur in public spaces.”

Balancing Rights and Respect

Authorities urge residents to report inappropriate conduct to Suffolk Police through the non-emergency number or online reporting system. Many locals demand stronger measures to address the growing problem. The community faces a challenging task: protecting legitimate nudists’ rights while preventing behavior that makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Finding this balance while respecting everyone’s legal rights challenges local officials.

As summer approaches, Corton residents want swift action to reclaim their coastline. Their goal isn’t banning nudity entirely but making their beach safe for everyone again, including families with young children. Locals urge people to report concerns about inappropriate behavior to Suffolk Police via their 101 phone line or through their online crime reporting service.
