Bodies are capable of doing some really amazing things, particularly when undergoing a rush of adrenaline. A pregnant volunteer firefighter in Maryland, worked through labor pains to help the victim of a car crash. She did so, before checking herself into a hospital to deliver her baby.
Unexpectedly Going into Labor
Megan Warfield, a thirty-year-old mom of 2, was in a car accident which set off early labor. Her due date was a week after the incident. However, when the car crashed her body went into overdrive and labor pains began. The pregnant firefighter saw that the driver of the other vehicle was stuck. She worked through those pains to try and help the victim to safety. Early one day in October, Megan was on her way home from hosting a Golf tournament to honor her late father.
A Pregnant Firefighter Running on Adrenaline
The pregnant firefighter made an appearance on the NBC Morning Show, TODAY. She said in the October 13th interview, “I started to climb in there with her, but then I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re nine months pregnant,’” she explained. “I ended up holding onto her to keep her in place because I wasn’t sure of her injuries at the time.” The other car flipped, pinning the driver, and crashed into Megan’s car. Immediately following the crash, Megan got out of her car and rushed to help. The pregnant firefighter says she didn’t even know what had happened. “I don’t know how I did what I did because the cramping was so bad, I must’ve just been running on adrenaline.”

Welcoming a Baby Girl
After the incident, the pregnant firefighter immediately checked herself into Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In less than 24 hours, she and her boyfriend, Joshua Daugherty, welcomed a beautiful baby girl. Charlotte, Warfield’s third child, is healthy and the family has since been sent home.
Leaving a Lasting Impression
The pregnant firefighter volunteers for Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine. The organization was impressed by Megan. They stated in a public announcement she is a “true public servant. Since no good deed should go unrecognized, we wanted to highlight Megan’s heroic and selfless actions.” They ended their public announcement with, “Congratulations Momma Megan, Job Well Done!”
No Longer a Pregnant Firefighter
Chief Fire Officer, Shannon Stallings admits that although he wasn’t surprised that Megan was quick to help, he was stunned to see her due date so close. “It’s not uncommon to see our volunteers on scene,” Stallings said, “but to see one that’s been on administrative duties only laying in glass and oil trying to care for someone just weeks out of her due date, it blew my mind. You don’t see that everyday.”
In the weeks leading up to the event, the no longer pregnant firefighter, was working on desk duty. She says she’s ready to be back in action. “I’ve been itching to get back out. It’s what I was meant to do.” she in her interview with the Today Show.
