New Netflix Series Based on Tragic Events Has Viewers in Awe, a True ‘10/10’

A new Netflix series has been inducted into the site’s “Top 10 TV Programmes”, and its reviews are absolutely off-the-charts. The series is based on the events of a tragedy that took place in real life. It comes in seven parts, and the setting is a 1985 suburb in Brisbane, Australia. The name of the series is Boy Swallows Universe and it was available from January 11th. Trent Dalton, a journalist and author, is the inspiration for the series. It follows his childhood and is also an adaptation of his most popular novel, which has the same name.

The central characters in the show are Eli Bell (portrayed by Felix Cameron), Gus, his older brother (portrayed by Tiger Halley), their mother Frankie (played by Phoebe Tonkin), and Lyle, their stepdad (played by Travis Fimmel). Frankie is a drug addict and the family resides in a working-class neighborhood. Eli has a very difficult life, with his stepdad and school bullies being two of the primary causes. However, a convicted felon with a big heart (played by Frances Brown), and a pen pal in prison (played by Adam Briggs) serve as mentors to the youngster. Eli follows his curiosity and tries to uncover Lyle’s real activities. However, that only leads him to get involved with the town’s criminal underbelly.

The Netflix Series Has Gained Unanimous Appreciation

Rotten Tomatoes has currently given the Netflix Series 86%. IMDb scores it 8/10. However, for some fans, it is nothing less than a perfect 10/10. They repeatedly use the adjectives: beautiful, brilliant, and uplifting. One of the reviews on X (previously called Twitter) described their experience: “I power watched Boy Swallows Universe on Netflix last night, after becoming transfixed.” Another comment explained: “It has a fantastic storyline & keeps you on the brink of tears and in stitches laughing”. A third one praised the acting performance: “The actors shine but Felix Cameron as young Eli Bell is phenomenal. That kid is going places.

It is difficult to find a review that has any criticism for the Netflix series. A lot, like the comment above, were fans of the acting prowess showcased by Felix Cameron. He displayed an amazing range of sincerity and emotions. One viewer gave his summary of the series: “Boy Swallows Universe, in 1980s Brisbane, a precocious boy and his selectively mute brother embark on a suburban odyssey of love, redemption and retribution after their family is torn apart by a drug lord. I can only recommend you.

Another review went: “Boy Swallows Universe. Netflix. Just watched episode one. The wee guy in it is outstanding. Looking very promising. Here endeth my review.”14-year-old Cameron’s acting career began in 2020 via the film Penguin Bloom. It is a heart-warming movie that will also twist your gut in sadness. Cameron, in the film, played Rueben. He was the son of Naomi Watts and Andrew Lincoln (of The Walking Dead fame). The story follows the family’s attempt to overcome every challenge that comes their way after Naomi becomes paralyzed due to a fall.
