Most soon-to-be parents have absolutely no say in the gender of their child, and still, many of them find themselves rooting for either a baby boy or a baby girl in both the ultrasound or delivery room. Some may even be disappointed when the gender is not what they hoped for.
Traditionally, in America, most parents’ preference seemed to be boys; this was determined by analyzing how many couples continued to have children to try having a boy. Until more recently, studies show that parents who already had a son were less likely to keep having kids.[1]
There is a saying, “Man plans and God laughs,” this can be proven as true by those whose plans seldom work out. Some of us are people who plan, and then there are those of us who go with the flow. There is no doubt that even though life can be unpredictable and sometimes frustrating, especially if we need control, there is beauty to be found in the surprises that life sometimes gives us.
This British family has had more surprises than most! Especially when it comes to parenthood, below we share their incredible story!
The Brett’s are a Family of 10, and welcome their newest member, a baby girl!
Alexis is the first and only mom in Britain to have given birth to 10 boys in a row. After the 10th boy, she thought her family was complete. However, life gave an extra little surprise for her and her family of 11 – a baby girl. 39 years old Alexis is now the proud mother of 11 children, 10 boys, and 1 girl, making them a family of 13! After more than 8 years of pregnancy, her family is now complete with the addition of a precious baby girl.[2]
The 11th Member And Newest Addition To The Brett Family A Baby Girl Named, Cameron
After years of birthing boys, Alexis has given birth to a baby girl named Cameron. The ecstatic parents have said that since having Cameron, the household dynamics have changed. They have shared that the boys have become a lot more attentive as to not disturbing their new baby sister, and they are a lot more well-behaved in day-to-day life. The boy’s recent change of behavior has been a blessing for both mom and dad.
Alexis has said that the birth of their baby girl was a surprise. When they discovered she was pregnant, they thought they were going to have a boy again. So, when Cameron was born, it was obviously a huge surprise. Alexis, delighted as she is, say’s that she and her hubby will not be having any more babies.
“There’ll be no more. I said that last time but this time, I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now.”
Not everyone thinks their choice to have a large family was good
As we know, humans are wildly opinionated. Consequently, the Brett family has had their fair share of nasty remarks. After their baby girl’s birth and knowledge of their family grew, not all people favor their decision to have 11 kids.
“Some people think we must be on benefits but we’re not. David has a good job, which means we don’t even qualify for full child benefit.”
The father of the 11 children is a train driver and supports the family with his job. He leaves the home at 5:30 am. This gives Alexis some quiet and alone time to enjoy her coffee and get ready before the kids wake up.
Raising children, in general, is not an easy task. Let alone raising 11! Firstly, Alexis does an average of 49 loads of laundry a week! Secondly, she hoovers up to 6 times a day! Surprisingly, this has not stopped her from aiming to get back to work! She plans to go back to being a part-time fitness instructor in a couple of weeks.
Alexis has said that baby Cameron has completed their family
No family is perfect, and raising children is not all rainbows and sunshine. Especially now with so many boys and a baby girl. Alexis has admitted that she and her husband, David, have exchanged questionable looks while thinking, “What have we done.” But, the kids then always (unknowingly) do something to melt the hearts of their parents. Making it all worthwhile at the end of the day.
