When ordering from a fast-food outlet, mixups can sometimes happen. The number of people waiting for food means that the pressure is on. We’ve all had our order mistaken for someone else’s before. You could be at home, waiting for a delivery when the doorbell rings, only to find out you have something other than what you asked for. How would you react in a situation like this? Do you go on the warpath, vowing never to honor the restaurant chain with your patronage again? Or, do you simply eat what was brought because you’re so hungry and simply tired of waiting? I guess some things are just beyond our control. Still, we hope for the best when ordering from our favorite food spots. Recently, a mother and her son in the Philippines had a shocking experience when they received a deep-fried towel in their order. She posted about the whole ordeal on Facebook.
She couldn’t believe it
Alique Perez from Manila ordered a chicken meal for her son from a local Jollibee outlet, and the surprise they got was certainly not one you’d associate with a happy meal. Rather than the chicken they ordered, Alique received a blue deep-fried towel that had been fried up in Jollibee batter. 11 herbs and spices or not, it wasn’t exactly the “Chickenjoy” that was promised. Alique and her son were horrified, and the experience completely turned them off the chicken chain that they vowed to never again visit. Who could blame them? Can you imagine biting into a deep-fried towel? The possibilities are just too outlandish to consider. A battered towel falling into a deep dryer is bad enough, but to serve it to a customer too is simply ridiculous. Alique posted her findings on Facebook and received over 100,000 reactions.
Jollibee took the deep-fried towel seriously
The fast-food franchise closed their store in Bonifacio Global City for 3 days to “thoroughly review its compliance with procedures and retrain its store team.” Jollibee said, “we are deeply concerned about this matter and have conducted a thorough investigation of the incident.” The statement said, “it is unfortunate that deviations from Jollibee’s standard food preparation procedures occurred on the part of certain personnel of the store.” In the statement, they promised, “we will also send out reminders to all stores to ensure the strict adherence to Jollibee’s food preparation systems.” They stated that “Jollibee has carefully developed and complied with food preparation systems to ensure that we deliver excellent quality products and customer satisfaction.” The company declared, “We will continue to endeavor to deliver on the high standards we have set for ourselves and franchisees.”Jollibee, Facebook
She gave them a lesson in customer service
Alique expressed her complete shock on Facebook. Alique explained it was “just something that frustrated me this late. We had Jollibee delivered via grab. Ordered chicken for my son, while I was trying to get him a bite, I found it super hard to even slice.” She continued, saying that she “tried opening it up with my hands and to my surprise a deep-fried towel.” Alique said, “this is really disturbing…” and wondered “how the hell do you get the towel in the batter and even fry it!?!?” Before this, Alique thought complaints about the “weird stuff” people discovered in their food were just stories. “Now I know that it really happens,” she said. Her thoughts about Jollibee were clear. “So disgusting and embarrassing,” she continued “to think that you’re even branched in BGC.” Alique said, “there’s a first for everything, and this has been the worst first!”Alique Perez, Facebook
