Being a mom is a tough job, but being a single mom is even tougher. Now, imagine being a 17-year-old single mother to a disabled child. Nikki had this reality, but she promised her son a life of fun and of adventure, and that is exactly what he has while traveling the world on his mother’s back!
Jimmy Antram is now 26 years old, and he has lived a life of more adventure and excitement than most ever will. His 43-year-old mother carries him on her shoulders, and together they have already crossed Bali and Hawaii off their list. Canada was next until Covid hit.
Disabled Traveler
Jimmy is not only blind but disabled in many other ways. It makes traveling a lot harder, but not impossible for this incredible team. Nikki refuses to use his wheelchair, she told Green Lemon;
“Planning big holidays, I always make sure I have plenty of nappies, clothes, and even bed pads, sheets, and pillowcases,”
Chatting to The Daily Mail, Nikki says;
“Even if I know we will be okay I like to inform the companies to give them a heads up about us to make sure they understand and are okay with having us there.
“I have worked out how to piggyback Jimmy while pulling my suitcase and carry on through an airport until they give me a wheelchair we use until we board the plane.”
Life of Adventure
The mother and son duo both love the outdoors and water. Jimmy, like most young adults, loves s good party! His mom recalls their party nights in both Bali and Hawaii;
“I will with Jimmy find ways to get him the best and most adventurous life, and most of the time, it’s the simplest things that he loves the most.”
Jimmy’s mom is currently saving up to purchase a Troop Carrier to make their travels easier. Luckily, Nikki is able to work and give her son the life he deserves. While life as a young mom isn’t always easy, she won’t let anything stop her from providing a life of adventure to her boy
‘He’s my inspiration,’ she says. ‘I see him… He’s always happy, smiling… He doesn’t see me in a conventional way, but I’m sure he has a vision of what I look like in his mind.’
