Would you make fun of a little girl’s name? I didn’t think so.
However, a gate agent from Southwest Airlines sure would.
Unfortunately, there will always be bullies. For instance, we can fight to bully all we want, but there will always be those classroom bullies that make our children afraid or unwilling to go to school. Of course, when the bully is a young child, this often indicates something else is happening in their lives, and we hope that with time and more support, they grow out of it as adults.
There are still bullies in the ‘adult world.’
For example, people at work who bully their coworkers, maybe the bully is in your family, and finally, those bullies who never mentally left high school and still think they are the ‘top-dog.’
But when an adult makes fun of a child, that reaches a whole new level of despicable.
Mom catches gate agent making fun of her little girl’s name
Traci and her daughter Abcde (ab-city) were at John Wayne Airport waiting to board a plane with Southwest Airlines to get home to Texas.
Abcde suffers from epilepsy. So, the duo was set to board the plane early. That’s when Traci heard a giggle coming from the flight attendant.
“The gate agent started laughing, pointing at me and my daughter, talking to other employees,” Traci shared.“So I turned around and said, ‘Hey, if I can hear you, my daughter can hear you, so I’d appreciate it if you’d just stop,’” She continued [1].

Even if this gate attendant thinks Abcde is an unusual name, why does she think she has the right to make fun of a little girl… I understand we all have different name preferences, but that does not justify this woman’s actions in the slightest.
To make matters worse, the gate agent continued mocking the girl even after they boarded the plane.
Traci received a shocking message from her friend. Abcde’s boarding pass was posted to Facebook.
To clarify, this horrible gate agent took a picture of Abcde’s pass and posted it without her or her mother’s knowledge.
Of course, Traci reported this incident right away to Southwest Airlines. However, that didn’t prevent little Abcde from becoming traumatized.
“She said ‘Mum, why is she laughing at my name?’” revealed Traci.” And I said not everyone is nice and not everyone is going to be nice – and it’s unfortunate,” [1].
The airline issues apology for the gate agent making fun of the little girl’s name
“We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our customers, which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online… We have followed up with the employee involved, and while we do not disclose personnel actions publicly, we are using this as an opportunity to reinforce our policies and emphasize our expectations for all employees,” the statement read [1].
Basically, it sounds like all the gate agent got is a slap on the wrist which is disappointing. It also probes the question: what kind of airline employs people who make fun of little girls?
