1. Chuck Cunningham – Happy Days

Earlier on in the storyline, Chuck Cunningham, the eldest brother of Richie and Joanie in Happy Days was a familiar character. Portrayed initially by Gavan O’Herlihy and later by Randolph Roberts, he was a basketball player and college student.
After the second season was aired, Chuck disappeared without explanation, with the family carrying on as if nothing had changed. This disappearance actually triggered a phenomenon coined the “Chuck Cunningham Syndrome,” which became synonymous with characters vanishing without a trace.
2. Judy Winslow – Family Matters

The youngest daughter in the Winslow family, Judy Winslow was featured regularly on Family Matters. Played by Jaimee Foxworth, Judy was one of those iconic TV characters that was last witnessed climbing the stairs in season four, never to return again. The show went on without her, focusing more on Steve Urkel.
3. Mandy Hampton – The West Wing

A political consultant and media director, Moira Kelly portrayed Mandy Hampton during the first season of The West Wing. She is a major feature in the story, but she disappears in the second season without explanation. Later on, creator Aaron Sorkin explained that the character just wasn’t fitting in well, so she was removed from the series.
4. Dr. Katherine Pulaski – Star Trek: The Next Generation

Chief Medical Officer in the second season, Dr. Katherine Pulaski who was played by Diana Muldaur, replaced Dr. Beverly Crusher. By the third season, Dr. Crusher returned, with Dr. Pulaski never appearing again thereafter. This left fans confused, wondering what may have happened to the character.
5. Tina Pinciotti – That ’70s Show

Donna Pinciotti had a younger sister named Tina in the first season. She was played by Amanda Fuller. She appeared in a single episode and then vanished as if she’d never existed in the first place. This left Donna as an only child for the remainder of the series.

6. Sara Spooner – The King of Queens

Carrie Heffernan, Leah Remini’s character initially had a younger sister named Sara Spooner. She was played by Lisa Rieffel in the early days of King Of Queens, but the aspiring actor soon disappeared from the story with zero explanation. The show carried on as if she had never existed in the first place.
7. Mr. Turner – Boy Meets World

Mr. Jonathan Turner, portrayed by Anthony Tyler Quinn was one of those iconic TV characters who was portrayed as a beloved mentor and teacher from seasons two to four of Boy Meets World. Turner was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident in an episode and was never mentioned again. He did, however, years later reappear on Girl Meets World, the spin-off series which gave some fans closure.
8. Kaitlin Cooper – The O.C.

Younger sister of Marissa Cooper, Kaitlin Cooper, originally played by Shailene Woodley appeared in the first season of The O.C. and then simply got swept off to boarding school. She then disappeared from the storyline. In the third season, Willa Holland replaced her, vaguely attributing her absence to her time away at school.
9. Nikki and Paulo – Lost

Nikki (Kiele Sanchez) and Paulo (Rodrigo Santoro) were introduced in the third season of Lost, initially meant to integrate with the main group of survivors, but these iconic TV characters received a negative response from fans. The characters were then suddenly killed off in the episode named “Exposé,” buried alive, paralyzed. This dark humerous approach to their demise was well-remembered.
10. Dr. Grace Miller – House

In season two of House, Dr Grace Miller who was portrayed by Sela Ward was brought into the storyline as a formidable physician with the potential to be Dr. House’s love interest. Her character disappeared despite the initial buildup without any explanation. This left viewers lost and curious about her prompt disappearance.
11. Ben Geller – Friends

One iconic TV character that quickly vanished was Ross Geller’s son from his first marriage in the earlier seasons of Friends. He was portrayed by various iconic actors such as Cole Sprouse. His appearance slowly dwindled, notably so after Ross and Rachel’s daughter, Emma was born. There was zero explanation for his disappearance.
12. Morgan Matthews – Boy Meets World

Morgan, Cory Matthews’ younger sister was portrayed by Lily Nicksay. She appeared in the early few seasons of Boy Meets World. Suddenly, Morgan disappeared after the second season ended without any explanation. She then reappeared a few seasons later but was replaced with actor Lindsay Ridgeway. The show at least reintroduced the character humorously by her jokingly stating that she had been “in her room for a long time.”
13. Eric van der Woodsen – Gossip Girl

Eric, Serena van der Woodsen’s younger brother, played by Connor Paolo was one of those iconic TV characters in the earlier seasons of Gossip Girl. The character slowly became more sporadic in appearance and eventually fully disappeared. N narrative, and no explanation, and this left fans questioning his fate.
14. Duncan Kane – Veronica Mars

Portrayed by Teddy Dunn, Duncan Kane was Veronica’s ex-boyfriend in two seasons of Veronica Mars, an iconic TV character. In the middle of season two, Duncan disappeared with his baby daughter, leaving town. Subsequently, he never reappeared, leaving a massive gap in the storyline.
15. Seven – Married… with Children

In season seven of Married… with Children, the Bundy family took in Seven, a young boy portrayed by Shane Sweet. A few episodes later, Seven just vanished with no explanation from the series. The writers were quite cheeky when later on in an episode, his face appeared on a missing child poster in the background.
16. Cindy Snow – Three’s Company

Jenilee Harison portrayed Cindy Snow, a replacement for Chrissy Snow in the fifth season of Three’s Company. Klutzy and charming, Cindy eventually vanished from the series when she was written out to make space for Terri Alden, a new roommate. The sudden departure was never addressed on screen, leaving viewers confused.
Pete Campbell’s brother, Bud Campbell, played by Rich Hutchman was an iconic TV character in the first season of Mad Men. He was part of a dynamic family, yet as the show progressed, he was quietly phased out without any acknowledgment or mention from the writers as to why.

18. Stuart Minkus – Boy Meets World

A nerdy classmate of Cory, Shawn, and Topanga, Minkus, portrayed by Lee Norris featured in the first season of Boy Meets World. Another mysterious disappearance on the show, he disappeared after the first season’s finale, returning briefly in the series finale. he joked that he had been “on the other side of the school.”
19. Miss Blankenship – Mad Men

Miss Blankenship, Don Draper’s quirky secretary in Mad Men, played by Randee Heller, was well recognized and a fond favorite. She was short-lived in the show, suddenly passing away at her desk in season four. She provided comic relief throughout the series and her absence was glossed over with little relief.
20. Tori Scott – Saved by the Bell

In the last season of Saved By The Bell, Tori Scott, portrayed by Leanna Creel was a new student who replaced Kelly and Jessie temporarily. Tori showed up in quite a few episodes, but then suddenly vanished without a trace when Kelly and Jessie returned, leaving viewers rather confused by the direction writers were heading in.
21. Brendan Lambert – Step by Step

Played by Josh Byrne, Brendan Lambert was at the time, the youngest member of the Blended Lambert-Foster family on Step by Step. Progressively, as the show went on, his appearance slowly dwindled, which saw his character vanish in the final season. There was no explanation for his disappearance, leaving fans questioning where the actor went.
22. Oliver Trask – The O.C.

Another memorable iconic TV character who just vanished was Oliver Trask who was portrayed by Taylor Handley. He was introduced in the first season of The O.C. as a troubled teen who was manipulative. This created tension between Ryan and Marissa. After his storyline concluded, the actor disappeared from the series and was never revisited again.
23. Jenny Humphrey – Gossip Girl

Played by Taylor Momsen, Jenny Humphrey was one of the foundational characters in Gossip Girl. However, as the series progressed, her character didn’t, leaving her out completely by season four. Jenny left on a fashion internship in London and that was it. She made brief appearances thereafter, but things were loosely explained and fans felt that her departure was unresolved.
