Girl Begs to Skip School to Stay Home with Dad, Sees Him on the Floor a Few Hours Later

Parents live the first portion of their children’s lives trying their hardest not to let anything bad happen to them. Sometimes, things happen that are out of their control, but few people expect their children to be the hero when calamity strikes. The father of Macie Semrau will forever be in his daughter’s debt, all because she refused to go to school on April 12, 2022. Ultimately saving his life!

A Refusal From Macie

Macie is the daughter of Kyle Semrau and Kate. They lived in Elliot Maine with her little brother, Caleb. Kyle worked night shifts, and one morning, upon his return home, he mentioned that he had been feeling light-headed. Not thinking much of it, Kate continued getting ready for the day. The only thing is, Macie, who was only six years old had made up her mind that she was not going to school that day. No matter how hard Kate tried to convince her, she just wanted to spend some quality time with her father. She told her parents that she missed her daddy, and they ended up allowing her to stay at home.

Kate went to work. Knowing full well this was against her policy as a parent, she made an exception for this one time. Macie played with her little brother all morning. Right until they suddenly heard screams started coming from down in the basement – it was their father, he was in trouble.

Their father Taught them Quick-Thinking Skills

Kyle’s ambition was for his children to grow up not only intelligent, but also smart, and able to problem-solve and think on the spot, even in moments where they are under pressure. He got more than he could have asked for when his daughter found him lying on the basement floor, passing in and out of consciousness.

When Macie came into the basement and saw her father lying on the floor passing out repeatedly, instead of panicking like most children might, or freezing, she knew exactly what to do.

Macie Saved Her Dad’s Life

Macie went to her dad and took his phone from his pocket. He kept passing out, and she needed his password to unlock his phone. She waited for him to regain consciousness and got him to recite his password. In an interview with Boston 25 News, Kyle told the reporter: “I remember giving her my passcode, as I was in and out of consciousness, I was having a really hard time breathing.”

Once she had unlocked the phone, she opened up the search engine to find the number for the police. She typed in: “Elliot Poliz,” and it worked!

“I pressed this button and typed Eliot Police, and I hit call,” said Macie. “I don’t want to say this, but I thought he was going to die.”

“It’s insane,” Kyle remarked later on, “I still have it saved. If you open up my browser the way that it is spelled ‘Elliot Poliz.’ When I asked her what she pushed, you see the call button. Which actually goes right to the dispatcher here in town.”

Judy Smith was the dispatcher who answered the emergency line that Macie called. She worked for the Stanford Police agency. Judy was amazed at the young girl’s ability to remain so calm in such a situation. Macie was so prepared for the situation that she went on to explain to Judy what her father’s condition was. Thankfully of Macie’s level-headed attitude in an otherwise scary situation, the police arrived two minutes later.

He had some difficulty breathing, so he was admitted to the Wentworth hospital. It took three days before he was well enough to be released. And, once the dust had settled, neither was afraid to recount the whole ordeal.
