Divorce Lawyer Says Women Should Avoid These 5 Professions in a Husband

A divorce lawyer has likely come across a number of personality types throughout their career. After all, marriages can be challenging and often end in an argument in the lawyer’s office. When emotions fly high, there are likely some colorful moments to witness, particularly when clients become volatile. A divorce lawyer from Georgia has offered some advice to women everywhere in regard to personalities she’s encountered and the similar traits that make someone a questionable partner.

Divorce Lawyer Shares Experience

Katherine Leonard is from Atlanta, Georgia, and has been a divorce lawyer for over a decade. During her encounters with clients, she has noticed a pattern in certain professions. After years of seeing the similarities, she has taken those observations and compiled a list of professions she believes caution should be used when considering marriage.

Turning to Social Media

Leonard posted a video on her now-deleted TikTok where she explains any profession that gives one a hero complex. Within days, the video had gone viral and sparked debate among millions of followers. “When I first started practicing law 13 years ago, a woman attorney gave me a statistic about the professions of men that women should avoid marrying,” She said.

I thought, that’s a really random thing to think about [and I wondered] how would you even get that kind of statistic? But it stuck in my head.” the divorce lawyer continued, “Over the course of my career, I’ve watched my most difficult cases and shockingly, many of them involve men in these professions.” Concluding, “If you’re married to someone in these professions, it doesn’t mean it’s your doom to failure or that your husband is a bad person – I’m sure there’s outliers to any statistic. This is just for fun, it’s something generally speaking that I’ve observed as being pretty common.”

Shining a Light on Her Wisdom

The divorce lawyer warns women against marrying firemen, surgeons, military personnel, police officers, and pilots. Her experience has shown men in those professions tend to be more narcissistic. We often hear of the dangers of being in a relationship with a narcissist. However, few people actually know the signs to look out for.

Statistically, the traits are more commonly found in men and include being self-centered and shallow. While those traits are not uncommon, they do become problematic. When these frequently occur and result in lacking empathy, the outcome can be incredibly damaging. In some cases, said narcissists can completely disregard the feelings of their partner and cause emotional turmoil or emotional abuse.

Furthermore, emotional abuse can look like gaslighting, bullying, disrespecting boundaries, and even dominating a person or situation. Sometimes, a narcissist crosses the threshold from emotionally abusive into straight-up abuse, which can end up leading to a potentially dangerous or fatal situation.

Acknowledging Possible Exceptions

The divorce lawyer clarified that not everyone in these professions has the same traits. However, as a divorce lawyer, she does have a lot of experience with these types of people. Furthermore, she has seen them in highly emotional situations. Although she posted the video just for fun, she did make some interesting observations.

Women often face potentially hazardous environments—most of the time, they are built smaller than their male counterparts. As a result, knowing what personality traits to be on alert for is helpful. This may help minimize trauma or danger from significant others.
