‘I didn’t miss my husband on holiday so I divorced him’

Stephanie Hanson, a 41-year-old mother from Liverpool, ended her marriage after coming to the realization that she didn’t miss her husband while on vacation in Greece with her friends last year. Following her return, she decided to leave her husband, to whom she had been married for a decade.

After six months, Stephanie had shed five stone (70 pounds) and crossed paths with David Baldwin, 43. The mother of four now claims that she has never been happier. ‘I remember thinking while I was away about how I really missed the kids, but I didn’t miss my husband. I was in the worst shape of my life, and it dawned on me, at home, I was miserable. So I did something about it.’ Said Stephanie.

Stephanie decided to celebrate her 40th without her husband

Stephanie marked her 40th birthday with a blissful ten-day vacation to Kefalonia, accompanied by two close friends. She relished the opportunity to escape from her daily worries and thoroughly enjoyed her trip.

However, as the holiday progressed and she spent time by the pool conversing with her friends. Stephanie experienced a sudden epiphany that she no longer felt affection for her spouse. “So when I flew back, I ended it there and then. And I knew I’d made the right decision when I saw his reaction.” Hanson said. Consequently, she faced the daunting choice of ending her decade-long marriage on the day she returned home.

Reflecting back on leaving her husband

Stephanie realized she wasn’t happy with her weight when she got her holiday photos developed and saw that she weighed 17 stone. She saw this as an opportunity to start anew as a single woman and decided to make some changes to her appearance.

Stephanie began exercising at home with a hula hoop and made significant dietary changes, swapping chocolate, takeout meals, and cream and butter-based dishes for lean meats, fish, salads, and soups. Over the course of a few months, she gradually incorporated running into her fitness regimen and began shedding the weight she had been carrying for a decade.

Feeling better than ever, she met the love of her life

After meeting her boyfriend David in July and introducing him to her children, Stephanie is excited about the future and can’t wait to see what it holds. The phlebotomist said: ‘After leaving my ex-husband, the next thing I needed to do was lose weight. The photos from the holiday made me see my horrible shape, so I started working out at home and changed my diet.”

‘It was hard at first, but the motivation of being freshly single carried me through. In July, I met David on Facebook’s dating website and we hit it off straight away. I met him around halfway through my fitness journey, but he didn’t care about that, he loved me as I was. She continued.

‘I now weigh 12 stone, but I’m quite tall, so I think if I lose one more stone, that will be perfect. If I hadn’t off gone on that holiday, I’d still be stuck in a marriage with a man I no longer loved, so to be where I am now, I couldn’t be happier.’ She finished.
