Jo and Kevin Taylor have been married for a whopping 56 years. This is a remarkable amount of time, and they share the kind of marriage that is the envy of many. They describe each other as being best friends. The TODAY Show chose them for their Ambush makeover. This time, they chose a couple to work with, in honor of Valentine’s Day. Their makeover results left them speechless and unable to recognize each other!
Biker-Styled Married Couple
Meet Jo and Kevin Taylor, a remarkable married couple who have traversed life’s journey together for an awe-inspiring 56 years. The two met when Jo was 14, and Kevin was 17 years old. From the very first moment they laid eyes on each other, an inexplicable connection sparked within their hearts, and they knew deep down they would be together forever. Through the rollercoaster of life’s ups and downs, they have weathered storms. Their perfect bond can be seen in their humorous interactions with each other. Throughout their marriage, they had five children that they love and adore. They then welcomed into the world 14 grandchildren, making their family wholesome, to say the least.
The only thing is, their sense of style has not seemed to change since the 1970s. They still thrive off their biker’s fashion senses, from baggy clothing to their scruffy hair. These two make you feel like you have just stepped back in time for a few decades. Most bikers wouldn’t give two hoots about keeping up with the latest beauty trends, which makes it surprising that they applied for the Ambush Makeover. Even though they were hesitant, they were inspired by their loved ones to do so, but neither thought they would actually get selected. Much to their surprise and possibly a little despair, they were chosen for the Ambush Makeover! One thing was for sure; neither ended up regretting their decision.
Ambush Makeover, Valentine’s Edition
The Ambush Makeover team decided to give a special Valentine’s Day makeover. When the stylists for the Today Show met Jo and Kevin, they fell in love with their humor and how precious they were with each other. They were thrilled to be able to work with the tailors. Louis told the TODAY Show presenters: “I have to tell you, I have never seen a couple after 49 years so in love. And so incredibly pleased with the simple things in life.”
So, they set to work, devising a plan for their makeovers. This meant finding a way to maintain their sense of biker style while adding some improvements. One thing was tricky. Jo was not as much a fan of her husband’s long beard as Kevin was. She has been wishing he would trim it, while Kevin loved the long locks that grew from his face and head. “I can just imagine what you’re going to do to me,” said Kevin.
However, Jill and Louis managed to achieve quite a remarkable result. A fusion of biker-chic was achieved. The result left Kevin and Jo in shock at how different they looked. Hilariously, neither recognized each other from how they looked before. Jo and Kevin have been living together for many years. This generally means they will know each other like the back of their own hands. So, when they received the makeover, it is unsurprising that they didn’t recognize each other. They looked so different.
The Makeover Reveal
The TODAY show called Jo onto the stage to reveal her makeover to the audience, as well as herself! She strutted onto the stage, and they told her to turn and look in the mirror. She was shocked, and expressed immediately, “Oh my gosh! Are you kidding me? That’s not even me. Who is that? Oh, I look absolutely gorgeous!”
Next, it was Kevin’s turn to appear. His transformation was even more surprising because his beard was trimmed short. This made him look like an entirely different person. He walked out on stage wearing a black suit and tie, carrying a bouquet of red roses for his wife. The moment she turned around to see him, Jo’s first reaction was to giggle and say, “Who are you?”
She walked right over to him with a huge smile on her face and said, “You’re so handsome!” Then, it was Kevin’s turn to see his reflection in the mirror. The result made him do a double take. He was sufficiently surprised at how he looked.
