Marriage is a beautiful commitment. Even if you were willing to say your vows, and dedicate your life to your spouse, many times it doesn’t work out as you originally hoped it would. When a married couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary, they captured the Internet’s attention. soon after, they both turned 100 years old. the achieved two amazing milestones in each other’s lives. All the while, they claim they have never quarreled.
Jane and Hubert’s love story
In June earlier this year, JUne and her husband, Hubert, celebrated 79 years of their marriage. Many people would admire the strength they possess as a couple, but the achievements do not end there. One month after their 79th anniversary, they both turned 100 years old. June’s birthday was the 13th July, and Hubert was on the 23rd July.
Hubert described how the two had met all those many years ago. He had been invited to a church, and that’s where he first set eyes on June. “Right in front of us was a pew full of young girls. And, she looked around at me and smiled.” After that, they became close friends, which evolved into a romance.
TODAY parents decided to interview the loving couple, and find out what helped their marriage survive for so many years. According to Hubert, he and his wife have never had a quarrel. Their daughter, 70 years old, will confirm that. This does not mean that they never had a disagreement, as they are only human. However, Hubert adamantly said: “We didn’t go through life without problems, but we would never do anything to hurt each other. If there’s controversy, you might have to walk away for a couple minutes. Then you come back in and change the subject or you work it out.”
Keeping up with routines
As June and Hubert are 100 years old now, there are the typical health concerns that come with ageing. June unfortunately had a few strokes over the last year which has complicated things a little bit. Although, they maintain their routines as best they can. Each night, they share a meal together, and watch television. Then, before they part for bed, they share a kiss. “I put Mom in her wheelchair next to where Dad is sitting and they hold hands and say goodnight to each other,” said their daughter. “Then in the morning, they are so happy to see each other. They greet each other with huge smiles.”
Their love’s lineage
One thing is for sure, June and Hubert set a good example of a healthy marriage for their three children. The 100-year-old couple now have seven grandchildren, and they lived long enough to meet their 11 grandchildren. Hubert says that when they are together, they could tackle anything. “It’s kind of like if we aren’t together, the team is broken,” he said.
June and Hubert have lived through many painful periods throughout their long lives. From the great depression, to World war II, one might have through all those stressful situations would have a negative affect on their close bond. But, they prevailed through the years. According to Hubert, the great depression helped them realize gratitude for all the small things they have.
Not only were they husband and wife, but they were best friends as well. They shared an interest for sharing stories of they hay days as opposed to going out. This meant they spent their joint birthday celebration in their backyard with close friends and family. “We’ve never really gone out much,” said Hubert. “When the kids were younger we were happy sitting around the table sharing stories about our day,” he said. “We’ve had a wonderful life.”
