What a Black Ring Symbolizes and Why People Wear Them

From friendship to the promise of forever, rings are a symbol of love and connection. However, some, like the black ring, may have a hidden meaning.

Hidden Meaning of the Black Ring

Americans have traditionally conveyed their commitment to their spouse by sporting a metal band on their left hand. Today, trends like ring tattoos or colorful bands are more popular but can have different meanings depending upon which finger they’re worn. For instance, a black ring may mean something less wholesome than the promise of forever.

Purportedly, a black ring worn on the right hand may be a symbol of a “swingers’” lifestyle, reported by Iheart.com. The site explains that a popular podcast, “Life on the Swingset” recently shared the secret meaning of a black ring.

Conversely, a black ring worn on the middle finger means the opposite. Instead, a black ring on the middle finger likely means the wearer identifies as asexual, meaning they feel little to no attraction to others. Of course, this doesn’t apply to everyone so if that’s your thing, do a little research before approaching someone wearing a black ring on their right hand.

Other rings often have more significant meanings. For instance, most people know that an engagement ring is a symbol of a couple’s promise to one day join their lives as one. Meanwhile, a wedding ring symbolizes the union of two lives. However, birthstone rings are also a sweet and thoughtful way to show your love to another. These can be given in friendship, among parents and their children, or between spouses. Either way, they are a beautiful way to add a personalized touch and remind someone how grateful you are for their existence.

Another ring with a significant meaning is the signet ring, often depicting a family crest or monogram. These rings are frequently passed down to future generations and represent family pride and the complex genetic code that creates those future generations.

Whimsical and Bright Designs

Meanwhile, more fun, whimsical, and lighthearted rings are meant for aesthetics. Although, it’s hard to imagine a ring signifying something more fun than what the black ring purportedly represents. Fun rings such as cocktail rings are usually made with bright and large gemstones with diamonds. They’re often colorful and sparkly, having been created in the 1920s and making a comeback every few decades.

Stackable Designs

Additionally, stacking rings have become exceptionally popular recently, and for good reason. They’re a fun way to stack bling with “understated” pieces to create the perfect combination of glamour and subtlety. Furthermore, with options like hearts and stars, stackable rings are versatile and customizable.
