Apparently, People Are Making ‘Chips’ Out Of Avocados Now

Avocado has become a modern food hero. It’s versatile, delicious, and packed with nutrition. People have eaten it on toast, in guacamole, in soups, in salads, in tacos, in smoothies, and in desserts, like brownies, pudding, and even chocolate truffles. In general, there are too many recipes enhanced by avocado to list them all. And with the hot trend of making healthier versions of potato chips — including sweet potato chips, zucchini chips, kale chips, even eggplant chips — it was only a matter of time before avocado chips entered the scene.

The Health Benefits of Avocados

Avocado chips have become the new food trend. One of the most popular recipes involves egg and parmesan cheese, making it accessible for those on a keto diet. And don’t worry if you don’t like the flavor of avocados; the taste is not prominent in these chips. Instead, you’ll get thin, crunchy, and salty chips filled with all of the health benefits of avocados.

These fruits are packed with healthy fats, fiber, and many vitamins and minerals, including nutrients that many people lack in their diets such as potassium. Regularly consuming avocados can help nourish and lift an overall diet. Plus, the fiber content benefits the digestive system and improves gut health. And the high potassium, magnesium, and other healthy elements of avocados can improve blood pressure regulation, which can help prevent heart disease. [1]

Although avocados are high in calories, their high nutritional content can actually help reach and maintain healthy body weight. In general, a diet high in fiber can help support weight loss. Additionally, avocados can help people feel satisfied after eating. However, moderation is still key with these superfoods.

As long as you’re paying attention to portion sizes, avocados are great foods to include in your diet,” said registered dietitian Julia Zumpano, RD, LD. “If you use avocado to replace other fats, you can enjoy the flavor and nutrients and also cut down on saturated fats.” This includes replacing mayonnaise on a sandwich, cheese in a salad, or sour cream dips, with avocado alternatives. Or try baked avocado chips instead of deep-fried variations. [2]

Chef Erinmorely’s Avocado Chips: “This is a gamechanger!”

TikTok user @chef.erinmorely was one of the people who helped popularize this food trend. Her video featuring this recipe earned over 275 thousand likes, 118.8 thousand shares, and over 2450 comments, including,

“Thank you, I just tried these and they are amazing,” one user commented.

That sounds wonderful,” another user added. And another said, “What? This is a game-changer![3]

Here are some cooking tips: Make sure you use ripe and fresh avocado as if you were making guacamole. Avoid any brown parts or avocados that are too hard to properly mash. Plus, the lemon juice in the recipe will help maintain the green color as well as contrast the saltiness of the chips. Keep in mind, this recipe is easily doubled. And you can play around with the shapes; for instance, you can make crunchy tortillas by dividing the batter into four large “chips”. [4] Here’s the video below Chef Erinmorely’s video below:
