89-Year-Old Grandma Was A Bridesmaid At Her Granddaughter’s Wedding And She Didn’t Disappoint

A Secret Life of Mom Highlight Story: Sometimes there are stories that are just too good, too beautiful, or too unbelievable to keep locked away. That’s why we scour the archives and bring some of them back to enjoy again. They may make you smile or shed a tear, but they’re always meant to add a little positivity to your day. This story is from July 2015. Enjoy!

Being a bridesmaid can often be a symbol of honor amongst friends. It essentially implies that this particular set of individuals are far closer to the bride, and have a special place in their hearts. Now, some might think that bridesmaids ought to be of a similar age as the bride themselves. But as it turns it, Betty Govern doesn’t think so.

This 89-year-old grandma was the bridesmaid at her granddaughter’s wedding. On the 2nd of May 2015, Christine Quinn married Patrick Quinn in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. During the wedding, Nana stood by her side looking gorgeous in a dusty purple dress. Betty stated, “You’re only as old as you feel and I feel young today.” The young lady who got married informed The Huffington Post that it wasn’t a difficult decision to involve her grandmother as a bridesmaid. In fact, she was one of her best friends.

89-Year-Old Grandma Turns Up As Bridesmaid For Granddaughter’s Wedding

While she doesn’t live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible. She just has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her.” Christine mentioned that just a few months before she was about to be wedded, she popped the question so that her grandmother wouldn’t have the time to say no. As it turns out, the bride never really expected her Nana to say yes, because her grandma is quite modest.

She asked me about 10 times, ‘Are you sure?’ and ‘Why would you want an old lady in your birthday party?’ A few times she even said ‘All of your bridesmaids are young and pretty, why would you want me?’ Obviously Nana is beautiful too. Just look at those photos!

Her Nana acquiesced to being her bridesmaid and soon turned into the life of the party. Christine stated, “She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day. Nana got on the party bus with the rest of the wedding party instead of ‘going home to rest’ but did not tell my mom. She also danced the entire night away, including an adorable moment when she and my husband’s grandmother, Bellsie, danced together. It was amazing.”

The tale of the 89-year-old bridesmaid does tell us that age is just a number. While we can always think that we are old and shouldn’t put an unnecessary burden on our health- there will always be cheerful individuals who would take on the challenge of old age and beat it.
