The United States, once renowned for its diversity and opportunities, now plays host to cities and states that used to maintain the “American Dream.” However, the past few years have seen a worrying trend: a departure from certain parts of the country. Rising living costs, shifting industries, and societal challenges have all prompted Americans to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Let’s take a look at the top 10 cities and states witnessing this mass migration. Without further ado, here are the top US cities that are being left.

1. San Francisco, California

Once a beacon of innovation and prosperity, San Francisco tops the list of cities Americans are fleeing.1 The past allure of a tech haven is now overshadowed by surging living expenses, prompting many to seek refuge in more affordable areas.

2. New York City, New York

The concrete jungle where dreams are made of has lost its shine as residents grapple with both rising living costs and taxes.2 The pandemic forcing so many industries to go remote has empowered many to leave the Big Apple. If you can keep your New York City salary, why not spend it on more affordable and spacious living spaces?

3. Los Angeles, California

Back in California, the glitz and glamor of fame and movie stars hide the harsh reality of nonsensical housing prices and cramped living conditions. The entertainment capital has residents migrating to neighboring regions to stay close to home but at a fraction of the cost.
