An influencer branded the ‘most beautiful in the world’ may not actually be a real person. Amassing millions of followers and views on social media, the ‘model’ named Nia Noir has sent the internet into a spiral after it was revealed she is entirely AI-generated. Noir boasts 2.7 million followers on TikTok, where she posts dance videos, vacation content, and selfies. Her videos have accumulated hundreds of millions of views across platforms, with one clip reaching 198 million views. However, her TikTok followers dwarf her Instagram followers, amassing approximately 250,000, with her bio reading: “Just a girl with a black dark side [black heart emoji],” and a link to her Fansly (a platform similar to OnlyFans for NSFW content).
Comments flooded her posts with praise. “Your beauty is truly a masterpiece,” one follower wrote. Another declared, “You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” Another commenter questioned why Noir was not already signed as a professional model. None of these users suspected that Noir was an AI-generated model.
Noir’s Facade Unravelled
The facade began to come apart at the seams when some commenters noticed abnormalities in her videos and images. Some commenters noted inconsistencies in her hands, which sometimes showed anatomical anomalies. Fluctuating finger counts and blurred skin textures were spotted by observant viewers, with multiple users commenting, “omg this is so obvious,” while another added, “I’m crying her hands it’s so obvious.“
Additional inconsistencies viewers caught were her constantly changing smartphone in the videos. Noir’s iPhone model changed between her selfies, which were posted mere days apart. Her face appeared unrecognizable in some videos despite her skin tone remaining constant throughout the posts. In her videos, the backgrounds also seemed suspicious, appearing unnaturally flat and disconnected from her body.
However, the dead giveaway came when internet detectives discovered Noir’s content almost exactly mirrored that of other content creators on the platform. Internet detectives found that Noir’s content was almost identical to Tatiana Kaer, a 21-year-old Spanish influencer with 5 million Instagram followers and 19 million TikTok followers. Noir’s videos appeared to be stolen from Kaer’s account and altered using deepfake technology. Kaer’s movements, dance routines, and even clothing were replicated frame-by-frame, with only the face and skin tone digitally replaced.
Noir also went viral after posting images alongside wrestler-turned-actor John Cena at a gym; but these images turned out to be fake. Despite mounting evidence and public outcry against Noir, no human representative has come forward and issued a statement about the account. The account was briefly banned from TikTok but has since returned, continuing to accumulate thousands of likes on every video.
A Billion-Dollar Industry Built on Digital Deception
Noir is the latest iteration of a rapidly expanding AI influencer market. The global AI influencer industry is projected to reach $6.95 billion by 2026, with virtual influencers like Lil Miquela, who debuted in 2016, securing partnerships with major brands such as Prada, Calvin Klein, BMW, and Samsung. Lil Miquela charges over $10,000 per Instagram post and reportedly earned $10 million from a single Samsung campaign.
The rapidly growing demand for these AI influencers raises some serious ethical questions about digital identity and exploitation. Researchers and advocates have pointed to a disturbing pattern where AI-generated Black women personas are created and monetized by non-Black individuals. “Non-black people are now completely making a living off creating black women and black personalities off of AI,” one post explained. Another account noted, “This account got 2 million followers in less than one month.“
Dr. Safiya Noble, author of Algorithms of Oppression, described this trend as digital blackface. “These systems don’t just reproduce stereotypes—they industrialize them,” Noble stated to journalists. The phenomenon mirrors historical exploitation where Black cultural labor and aesthetics are appropriated for profit without consent or compensation.
AI ethicist Angelica Renee emphasized the broader consequences of digital blackface in an interview with Word in Black. “The primary danger is the multiplication and automation of systemic racial bias,” Renee explained. Facial recognition systems already demonstrate higher error rates for Black individuals, leading to wrongful arrests. Healthcare algorithms trained on unequal data underestimate pain levels and cancer risks for darker-skinned patients. AI-generated personas add another layer of exploitation by extracting Black identity for monetization while excluding Black creators from profiting off the revenue stream.

While Nia Noir amassed 2.7 million followers through AI-generated and unrealistic content, real Black models continue to fight for visibility and compensation. Nyakim Gatwech, a Sudanese-born model known as the “Queen of Dark,” has built her career on explicitly rejecting the beauty standards that AI companies are currently exploiting. Gatwech faced immense prejudice and racism throughout her modeling career, from an Uber asking if she would bleach her skin for $10,000 to industry gatekeepers suggesting her dark complexion was a liability.
She has responded by building a platform centered on self-love and authentic representation. However, even as Gatwech earned recognition for her advocacy, AI-generated personas mimicking her aesthetics proliferated across social media platforms without her consent or compensation. This reveals a terrible disparity: real Black women struggle to monetize their own identities while synthetic versions generate significant income revenue.
Lil Miquela makes $73,920 meanwhile Black models earn significantly less than their white counterparts for comparable work. The Noir phenomenon represents the industrialization of what researchers call digital blackface, the extraction of Black cultural labor and aesthetics for profit by non-Black operators. Brands increasingly choose AI models because they offer cheaper alternatives to human creators, never demand better terms, and require no accountability.
The Business Model Behind the Illusion
Noir’s monetization strategy demonstrates the economic incentives driving AI influencer creation. The account directs followers to Fansly, where 18 posts are available for purchase through subscription tiers starting at $5 per month. Subscribers pay for access to increasingly explicit content, and while some are aware and do not care, others may believe that they are supporting a real person. The economics are compelling for operators: no talent payments, no contract negotiation,s and no human labor beyond initial setup and ongoing content generation.
Fanvue, a platform similar to Fansly and OnlyFans, reported that AI models generated double the revenue in November 2023 compared to the previous month, accounting for 15% of total earnings. Emily Pellegrini, one of Fanvue’s most successful AI creators, saw her revenue jump from $6,000 in October 2023 to $23,000 by January 2024. Her anonymous creator initially worked 14 to 16-hour days building the ideal model, then reduced to 8-hour days managing fan interactions and content generation.
Legal Frameworks Struggle to Keep Pace
Regulation has begun to catch up with technology; however, due to AI’s rapid expansion, significant gaps remain. The European Union’s Artificial Intelligence Act, which entered force in 2024, outlaws the worst cases of AI-based identity manipulation and mandates transparency for AI-generated content. The legislation requires both visible watermarks and invisible digital signatures embedded in the metadata of synthetic media.
