A month before she suddenly disappeared, a teenager from Missouri started telling the students at her school that she planned to run away. At that time, she even mentioned something about going to Colorado. From the 6th of December 2024, her phone and social media went completely silent. In mid-April, she contacted someone she knew, stating that she was in a different state. This information was then passed on to the police. The police detectives at Fort Collins then honed in on a particular home after using location information from Meta to pinpoint where she was. Not surprisingly, they recognized the address as belonging to a local sex offender, 44-year-old Maximilian Bondrescu. After denying the girl was there, she was eventually discovered in his closet, and the missing teen found a way out of the situation.
The Story Of the Missing Missouri Teen Found In a Different State

Maximilian Bondrescu already had a conviction from May 2019 and was a known registered sex offender. According to a news release from Fort Collins Police Services, Maximilian has now been charged with sexual assault on a child, felony second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, and false imprisonment. Additionally, he is also facing several misdemeanor charges, such as child abuse, obstructing a peace officer, harboring a minor, and an incomplete sex offender registry. He has now been booked into the Larimer County Jail with a bond set at $500,000.
Police raided the property as part of a kidnapping probe, during which Bondrescu initially denied that the teenager was there. However, the police continued with the raid and found the 16-year-old girl in one of his closets. Bondrescu is accused of renting a vehicle to drive to Missouri, where he kidnapped the girl and held her against her will at his home in Fort Collins, Colorado. According to the rescued girl, Bondrescu only let her leave the home occasionally, forcing her to work for his snow removal company. She was also forced to wear a mask over her face to hide her identity.

The Kidnapper Used Social Apps To Talk To The Girl

The two apparently initially started talking to each other on social media apps, such as Snapchat and Boo in November 2024. He then picked her up in the middle of the night and wrapped her in a blanket as he carried her into his house. The girl says that two other people also lived in the house, but she never met them, as her kidnapper had said they would get in trouble if she was discovered. Throughout January and February, the girl asked to go home, but Bondrescu said he didn’t have the money to take her back. Thankfully, the missing Missouri teen found a way out by phoning someone.
In a press statement released by the Fort Collins Police, Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky said: “The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit, and similar units across the nation, plays a vital role in helping to keep our children safe. Had it not been for the diligent work of these detectives, the juvenile could have continued to be victimized. Our investigators will now work closely with the District Attorney’s Office to ensure justice for this child.” As of yet, there have been no updates regarding the outcome of the trial.
