Dating apps are the popular choice nowadays for people trying to meet that special someone. It wasn’t that long ago that people actually had to go out to find a partner. Yes, this even included celebrities and high-status folk out there. 66-year-old Maureen McCormick is no exception to the rule and initially spotted her future husband at a concert. The real kicker, though, is the fact that she managed to actually win him over at church.
Known for her role as Marcia on The Brady Bunch, Maureen was famous from a young age
Maureen McCormick played Marcia on The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974 and thereafter went on to star in many spin-offs of the original series. Born August 5, 1956, she struggled severely with addiction and mental illness throughout her acting career. “I’ve been through a lot of hard times, but I take all those experiences and learn and grow from them,” she told People in 2016.
In 2019, Maureen joined previous cast members on A Very Brady Renovation on HGTV. She co-hosted the television station’s new home renovation design show, “Frozen in Time,” in 2021. “Designer Dan Vickery and The Brady Bunch’s Maureen McCormick overhaul homes stuck in a time warp. Dan brings the structure up to date while Maureen decorates with decade-specific pieces to give the homes a refreshed look with a nod to their original era.” Said HGTV.
She never had it easy, but fought back hard and managed to pull herself out of some pretty dark times
Addicted to cocaine and struggling with her inner demons daily, she realized that her acting career never really turned out to be what she had originally expected. It was then when she stumbled upon a man at a concert that Maureen knew he would be her husband. “I turned around and saw this guy behind me,” McCormick wrote in her autobiography, Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice.
“I’d never seen him before. He had dark hair, a great build, and chiseled features. I looked straight into his eyes and thought, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry.’” She decided to join the church where Cummings attended and made sure to sit near him in bible studies. After spending some time with him, they finally went on their first date, and let’s just say that the rest is history!

A love story based on the absolute truth
True love is to accept someone with all of their flaws. ”She was very honest with me from day one. She has always been honest with me, an open book. And I was never worried about her reverting to her old behavior as I figured, whatever comes up, we will just deal with it,” Cummings told Daily Mail in 2015.
Their relationship was, however not always smooth sailing. McCormick described it as “quick and passionate,” but there was a continuing drug addiction battle lingering. Hopping between sobriety and relapses, Maureen often pushed him away. Cummings never left.
“Michael said that he’d made a life-long commitment and decided he was going to work at it until it’s unworkable,” she wrote in her 2008 autobiography. “He thought child stardom had arrested my development, and in many ways he was right.”
Despite ups and downs, the couple is celebrating 37 years of marriage
The couple had their first child in 1989. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on the 16th of March. “I know there’s one reason that Michael and I managed to stay together through all the heavy-duty ups and downs: our faith,” McCormick wrote. “The two of us had faith that our love, despite all of our problems, was real, strong, durable, and worth sticking around for. Our faith made us believe our love was real.”
Maureen is additionally the global ambassador for Special Olympics. “While Maureen always has been passionate about her career in entertainment, what is most dear to her heart is advocating the importance of inclusivity on behalf of her brother Denny and the millions of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) worldwide.” Says the Special Olympics website of the actor.
Celebrity lives are exposed and we know about every happening in their relationships. This also includes splits, adultery, and divorce. It’s so refreshing to see a couple who managed to stand strong together through the media’s expectations, social standing, and gossip which has split many couples apart. May they have many more happy years together!
