Wife Calls Husband About “Man at the Door” that’s Been Watching Him and Wheelchair-Bound Daughter

We take for granted how easy life is when we have legs to walk from A-B. Many people do not have this luxury. Being in a wheelchair is hard. It means you can not access places that other people can and it often means you can not drive. You can’t play with your children the way you want to or run with your dog through the park. Getting around is really tough. This story is a reminder that there are still amazing people out there.

Wheelchair Bound

Every day, this North Carolina girl needed her father to assist her to get in and out of her home. Being in a wheelchair and having no way to access your home is quite challenging. The girl’s dad said:

Well it was kind of hard mostly on her, because basically she’s going up and down the steps, so basically constantly bumping and dumping down the steps, and you see her jumping and jumping. Then at the same time it’s hard on me, dealing with my back and I’m getting older, not younger.”

A Good Deed

Luckily, someone drove by one day and decided to help in the most amazing way possible! One day, the family had a visitor at the door.

My wife called and she says, ‘There’s a man at the door.’ I said ‘What do you mean, there’s a man at the door?’ And she said, ‘There’s a man at the door with a big truck in the driveway out the door and I don’t know who he is.”

Turns out, the man standing at the Belton family’s door was Joe Hill, owner of Premier Waterproofing. Joe told them how he had seen how Anthony struggled to get his daughter in and out of their home.

The school bus stopped, and I saw what he was going through getting his daughter down.”

Anthony recalls what Joe then told him after he

“‘Would you mind if I come out here and just built you a ramp for nothing?’ And he kind of got me. I kind of looked at him funny and said, ‘Yeah, there’s got to be a catch to it. Ain’t nothing for nothing. Haha.’

Building a Ramp

I don’t think anyone would believe it if someone turned up at their door offering to do something for free. But, Joe was no liar, and come Monday morning, he and his team were at the Belton’s home to build the ramp. As you can imagine, Anthony was overcome with Joy, especially when he saw his daughter’s face. She could now get in and out of their home all by herself!

Joy in my heart to see her smile, as soon as the door opened ,and she got there, she just started smiling. The smile did it for me, yeah, and knowing she can do it pretty much by herself, so it’s a little more independence for her. All I can say is nothing in the world that can put a smile on dad’s face than seeing his kids smile, especially seeing something that she’s going to enjoy. Nothing.”

“We need to have more Samaritans out here doing the same thing, as far as helping each other, instead of putting each other down. We need to be there for each other. And by him doing that shows you right there, there are people in the world that do have hearts that do care about other people,”

Thanks, Anthony, for being the person that we need to see more often!
