After People Kept Cutting Across His Lawn, This Man Hatched A Master Plan

Frustrated by the constant trespassers crossing his lawn, a video posted by Thomas Lyons gained widespread attention on TikTok. His clever solution to stop people from damaging his well-manicured grass sparked varied reactions in the comments section. The video, titled “when people won’t stop cutting across your lawn…”, showed a pedestrian taking a shortcut across his lawn to save a few moments on their journey, likely trimming mere seconds off their travel time. Just as they stepped on the grass, a well-aimed stream of water sprayed them directly, turning them away.

How does this setup protect his lawn?

Lyons explained that the system he installed is fully automated. It senses when someone is intruding upon the lawn, instantly activating the water jet to target them. Naturally, this left viewers with mixed opinions, with some noting it’s merely grass. For those who spend considerable resources and effort maintaining an immaculate lawn, it’s understandable they wish to keep it intact.

Negative opinions poured in

Some viewers, such as @wolf_man89, couldn’t grasp why walking on the lawn was frowned upon. “It’s just grass,” they commented. Another viewer frustratingly pointed out that allowing kids to save time by cutting across should be no big deal. One person even argued it was “rude” to prevent others from crossing their lawn, as they might need to reach their destination quickly without transportation.

Many followers defended the proud lawn owner

Others empathized with Thomas’s frustration, supporting his right to defend what he labored to preserve. Maintaining a lush lawn demands significant time and effort, and it’s reasonable to expect respect for that. @doggo_mom_life stressed that it’s not only about the grass being trampled but also about the litter left behind and the damage caused by continued foot traffic. @itdude2020 noted that those dismissive of the issue might not have experience maintaining a property themselves.

One TikToker pointed out something very important

@pooch_skylar_luna recounted an incident where a passerby sued them after tripping in their yard. “Keep spraying them down,” they advised Thomas, underscoring the potential liability risks involved with such trespassing. To emphasize his point, Thomas shared a pre-system installation video documenting the frequent incursions.

They were asked not to – but even bicycles and motorbikes were traveling over his lawn

Though critical views persisted, some comments, like that from @tatty_daddy_, were more lighthearted. “I LOVE this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn. Do as you wish,” they wrote. Thomas mentioned that this was just the beginning of his system and planned to record more footage in the future to evaluate its deterrent effect. There’s a sidewalk provided for a purpose, after all, right?
