Back then, their aim was to close down 500 stores in an effort to financially stabilize the business. These efforts however proved to be insufficient as they never managed to secure a buyer who was willing to take over those stores and their operations. This left them with no other option than to announce to closure of all their remaining locations.

The company expressed its regret to cease operation in a heartfelt statement. JOANN Fabric Stores stated: “JOANN leadership, our Board, advisors, and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business. We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders. We deeply appreciate our dedicated Team Members, our customers, and communities across the nation for their unwavering support for more than 80 years.”

What Shoppers Need to Know About the Closures

The closure of 800 stores is a monumental task not for the faint-hearted. JOANN has offered an extensive FAQ for their customers on their website as to how this would work. One frequently asked question is the timeline for these closures and going-out-of-business sales. Based on their feedback, these sales are already underway at many locations and will steadily expand to all their stores soon.

“Subject to court approval of the sale transaction, we expect to begin, or in some cases continue, going-out-of-business sales at all locations immediately,” the company explained. JOANN has suggested that customers check their app or website for up-to-date specifics if unsure.

For now, JOANN Fabric Stores’ online store remains operational, while its physical locations are being wound down. Though unclear when online purchases will cease to exist, customers can still make online purchases for now.
