Never Face Your Bed This Way! Bed Positions You Should Avoid at All Costs

While many rooms in your home may be full of bustling activity, it is your bedroom where you find your peace. A hard day of work requires a space where your body and mind can rest and recuperate. Therefore, it is essential that everything is in its right place when you put your head down to rest. Believe it or not, even the position of your bed makes a difference. Today, we will be taking a deeper look at three different bed positions you should absolutely avoid at any cost.

The Bed Shouldn’t Be Opposite the Door Head On

Doors are never fully sealed, which means that a persistent draft may affect you if your bed is positioned straight opposite it. Not only can drafts get in, but noise is also more noticeable when your bed is positioned straight opposite the door. If you live with roommates who get home late at night or wake up before you, it’s important to rather position your bed in a place where there is less direct noise. Furthermore, being in direct alignment with the door might cause a sense of vulnerability since your subconscious could perceive any activity outside the room as a potential disruption. According to Feng Shui, this is known as the “coffin position,” as it represents an energy drain and can contribute to bad sleep quality.

Don’t Place Your Bed Opposite A Mirror

Some folks believe that it is bad luck to place a mirror opposite a bed. However, there are actually a few practical reasons why you shouldn’t do so. First of all, waking up to an unexpected reflection can cause you to suddenly panic. It’s the same as seeing a coat hanging up that looks like a stranger – it’s hard to fall asleep again. The mirror can also reflect bright lights onto your face, such as from lightpost light and moonlight. Constant movement in the mirror, even just from shifting blankets, could lead to a state of unease that makes it impossible to relax and rest properly.

Don’t Place Your Bed Facing a Window

Just like with a door, having your bed too close to a window can put you at risk of catching a cold from the draft. The light and noise from outside are also louder closer to a window, which can potentially affect your rest. There is also more lack of privacy and security when your bed is opposite a window. Because windows are not well insulated, you can also experience fluctuations in temperature. Most Feng Shui experts recommend positioning your bed against a solid wall to provide a more balanced flow of energy.

Rather Place Your Bed Centered Perpendicular to the Door

Small bedrooms often benefit from placing the bed in the center of the wall, perpendicular to the door. Perpendicular lines connect at a 90-degree angle, so try to position the bed’s head against one of the room’s two side walls. In this position, the door will open to the side of the bed. For privacy reasons, you may want to avoid picking the option with the clearest line of sight from the door to the bed. With most floorplans, this arrangement allows for nightstands on either side of the bed as well as sufficient space to move around the bedroom. This position is most often seen in guest rooms, which are typically more pressed for space than the master room.
