After Neighbors Destroy Fence Multiple Times, Man Constructs One That Destroys 5 Cars

One of the commandments advises to love thy neighbor, but sometimes neighbors can be too troublesome to love. Despite our best efforts, some people refuse to be cooperative or civil. How do you handle such a situation? You could choose to have a major argument, commit to avoiding each other as much as possible, and hope to live without disturbances.

An alternative requires wit and cleverness: take revenge that teaches a lesson while keeping your hands clean. This is what occurred about four years ago in a story shared on r/ProRevenge. Although the original post was deleted, the tale remains.

The original poster (OP) lived in a small Central European neighborhood with neighbors who were akin to relatives. Their feud with the OP’s family predated the birth of the OP.

Here are some property details:

Our property lines form a square and are bordered by a road on two sides. We allowed our neighbors to use 1 square meter of our land so they could safely use the dirt road without damaging our property. This detail is crucial.

The road is gravel. The neighbors expected my parents to cover the entire cost of paving it with asphalt. Although my parents fixed potholes along 90% of the road, the neighbors assumed they would also fund the asphalt road.

The Revenge on the Neighbors

Even after two decades, the asphalt remained unpaved due to disagreements over who should pay. The situation escalated when a huge truck laden with wood ordered by the neighbor ran over OP’s family fence, bending metal parts and destroying plants. No compensation was offered. Annoyed but resilient, OP and family repaired the fence, and OP’s father noted that this was the third such incident caused by the neighbors.

OP’s father, well-versed in law enforcement, plotted a clever retaliation by building a solid fence along the property line:

“He dug up the property line marker and positioned plastic barrels filled with rocks. Within 6 hours, 3 neighbors crashed into them and angrily threatened to call the cops. They never did because everyone knew that part of the land was our property. One even threatened with a pickax. Over a year, the barrels took so many hits they became useless.”

Furious, my dad transformed his idea into a concrete solution. He made molds from wood, acquired cement, sand, and metal poles. On a peaceful afternoon, we cemented the ground portion and adorned it with lovely flowers on top. Now, hitting the concrete also meant immediately encountering our flowers of victory/defeat.”

The Extensive Toll

According to OP, this unexpected concrete fence led to the destruction of five neighbors’ cars. Since OP’s family was within their rights, there were no formal complaints. OP explained that the gravel road was the usual bone of contention. For over 20 years, OP’s parents had been the primary caretakers of the common road, often criticized by neighbors despite their efforts.

When asked how the fence caused numerous accidents, OP’s justification was that “Some are bad drivers. They eventually adapted, but some turned too soon, especially a neighbor known for frequently driving while intoxicated.” The chronic drunk driver eventually passed away, somewhat healing the strained relationship with that household.

Other relationships, though, never recovered. OP remarked: “We used to be friends. I played with their children and helped with their garage work; they helped with our car issues. Sadly, those bonds were broken.”

The Internet Reacts to the Unruly Neighbors

The majority of the comments wondered how neighbors managed to crash so repeatedly. As u/C-Cap comically puts it:

“Jesus, you would think after the first couple of times word would spread around that maybe it isn’t a good idea to drive into your fence.”

u/fishnetdiver shared a similar story:

“One of my neighbors did this but with his mailbox. He buried a steel pipe filled with concrete and painted it brown. Shortly after, a neighbor damaged their car by hitting it. People slowed down thereafter.”

u/pintail507 found the saga fascinating:

“This is insane. I would love to see sped-up footage of all these cars hitting concrete. Don’t see how they could all be that dumb. This belongs in r/idiotsincars.”
