The petition was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, outlining Leno’s proactive approach to secure his wife’s well-being and financial stability in the face of her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

“Unfortunately, Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years,” the petition said. “Jay is fully capable of continuing support for Mavis’s physical and financial needs, as he has throughout their marriage.”

The filing explicitly stated that Mavis Leno’s “current condition renders her incapable of executing the estate plan.” According to the court documents, she is currently undergoing treatment for both “dementia and mood disorder.” This information underscores the severity of Mavis’s health condition and the urgency felt by Jay Leno in taking legal measures to address her incapacitation and secure her financial future through the conservatorship.

According to the filed documents, the conservatorship is deemed necessary to empower Jay Leno to carry out estate plans designed to provide for Mavis and her brother, who happens to be her sole living heir apart from Jay himself.
