Animals have played a major role in the lives of humans for thousands of years. Specifically, dogs are companions, protectors, and even become part of the family. However, countless strays need love and shelter. Therefore, places like an animal rescue or Humane Society do important work in cities everywhere. As such, one group of kindhearted individuals found a sweet ‘puppy’ in desperate need of a bath. However, after being cleaned, the workers discovered something astonishing. As it turns out, it was no puppy at all.
Calling An Animal Rescue for Help

A construction crew was working hard one day when they discovered something unusual. They were working at a site in Canary Wharf, London when they stumbled upon a tiny animal. He was trapped at the bottom of a hole, caked in mud and plastic. Sadly, he was so dirty and mangled that it was unclear whether or not he had any injuries. Or even health concerns that might cause premature death. Furthermore, it seems no one knows how the tiny animal got there, guessing that he likely crawled down there on his own and got stuck.
Although their discovery stumped them, the construction crew knew they’d have to act fast and called an Animal Rescue, South Essex Wildlife Hospital. Despite their years of experience, the staff of the animal rescue were also stumped by the discovery. Nonetheless, the staff at the animal rescue were more than happy to help with the puppy. However, it soon became clear that the animal may not have been a puppy at all.
Taking him in, the animal rescue staff bathed him and cleaned him up, only to realize he was an adorable baby fox. Only four months old and “absolutely petrified” when he came in, the baby fox was appropriately named Muddsey. “It would certainly have had a pretty awful death if it hadn’t been found, it was very cold and in shock but is fine now. We felt very sorry for him because he was completely caked” explained Su Schwar, who runs the animal rescue.

Myths of a Non-Profit Animal Rescue

Although many non-profit organizations have been under fire for profiteering, that’s often not the case. On the contrary, these places provide much-needed care and resources to the public, creating change and making a difference. For example, animal rescue is a necessary place for most cities because dogs get lost, run away, or are abandoned, running wild and procreating. As a result, more and more animals are left without a home.
According to the Animal Rescue Professionals Association, an animal rescue can be what’s known as “cash-positive” meaning the facility can bring in more money than it spends. However, the idea is that all of the proceeds go to keeping the animal rescue running rather than into the pockets of the people running them, which is likely from where the misconception stems.
Truth About Their Needs

Therefore, public donations and government funding are essential to an animal rescue. For example, they may have more or less animals needing food, toys, and care, at different times of the year. Sadly, there about 6 million dogs annually who make their way into an animal rescue or shelter, and only about half find their forever homes. Luckily, there are people like Steve Greig, an accountant living in Denver, who’s made it his mission to adopt as many “unadoptable” pets as possible. Generally, older animals, in an attempt to give them a happily ever after, no matter how little time may be left.
Working as in an animal rescue is no doubt an emotional experience, however, there are rare stories like Muddsey’s that bring a little laughter and excitement into the lives of people who work hard, pouring out their love and compassion into their work.
