For centuries, people have searched for the secret to looking younger and living longer. While it’s impossible to achieve eternal life, Brandon Miles May from Detroit, Michigan, has figured out how to achieve a youthful glow well into adulthood. However, he notes that eternal life isn’t his driving force. Rather, it’s maintaining his overall health.
Man Confused for Young Teen

Brandon is a 35-year-old medical writer who is often mistaken for a teen. The 35-year-old has young skin despite many people his age facing wrinkles, fine lines, and sun damage. “When I go to the airport, security asks me how old I am. They do a double take. The age people think I am ranges but it can be 15 or 16 or 18 to 19. I’ve never had any work done.” He explained.
Tips for Looking Astonishingly Young

It turns out, there’s not much to look young. However, some damage has already been done for most of us. Brandon’s number 1 tip is to avoid the sun. He credits his youthful glow to staying out of the sun as its harsh rays cause severe and irreversible damage. “I’ve been staying out of sunlight my whole life,” he explained. “I wear a hoodie to block the sun and use physical coverings on the backs of my hands.”
Stay Positive and Avoid Certain Substances

Next, he explains that he doesn’t drink. “I attribute not drinking to my youthful appearance. Really embodying the feeling of youth. I think it has helped. I think.” He added, noting he also keeps a “positive-mindset.”
Diet Matters

Brandon has maintained his young-looking skin and lifestyle since he was a teen. Then, at 19, he committed even further to his healthier choices. Brandon gave up eating sugars, grains, and carbohydrates. As such, another hint for looking younger is to eat a plant-based diet. Brandon believes that by “fueling his body” with a plant-based diet, low-mercury fish, and fruit, he’s maintained healthier, younger skin. Additionally, he notes the importance of drinking green tea regularly.

Don’t Over Excert Yourself

In contrast, he admits he doesn’t “go heavy on the exercise.” Theoretically, avoiding stress and sweat which can clog pores and wreak havoc on the skin. “I keep my exercise moderate and gentle – a walk, yoga, and some strength training,” Brandon said.
Maintaining Health is the Primary Focus

“Feeling young is part of looking young. Living forever isn’t a priority. It’s about maintaining my health. I think I look better than I did ten years ago. I feel physically and emotionally young. I think the body follows the mind.” He said, adding that he eats chocolate every day. However, it’s always 92-100% pure cacao. “It’s super bitter.” He concluded. “I’m pretty flexible too. If I go out for dinner I’ll have some bread and olive oil.”
Foods to Keep Skin Looking Young

Admittedly, Brandon doesn’t always steer clear of carbs and fats. However, olive oil and bread probably aren’t the most unhealthy version of “cheating.” For example, according to Healthline, olive oil is one of many foods that help with “healthy aging.” While he may not be a doctor, the medical writer has a few things figured out. Rather, several of his diet options are highly recommended, including cacao, fish, and green tea. Moreover, consuming more fruits and vegetables will help preserve young skin because they’re loaded with water for hydration and antioxidants to protect against sun damage. Lastly, many people have had great results when incorporating collagen peptides into their diet, as aging inhibits the body’s collagen production.
Certain Products are Recommended

While diet is a big part of maintaining healthy young skin, some treatments and products also help protect the skin. The AADA suggests moisturizing and wearing sunscreen daily. Furthermore, ensure facial cleansers are free of harsh soaps or chemicals, and consider self-tanners as an alternative to exposing your skin to harsh UV rays. Lastly, changing facial expressions regularly can help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
Looking young is something most people strive for, particularly as they age. However, it seems the answer may be simple. Following the regimen of a healthy lifestyle-balancing physical activity without overdoing it, getting fresh air, protecting our skin, resting well, avoiding stress, and eating a well-balanced diet- is the key to maintaining overall well-being.
