Lo and behold. Yet another stupid challenge on the infamous social network known as TikTok. As if it couldn’t get any more ridiculous after the numerous absurd trends we’ve had to bear witness to. Such as when this teen told her 8-year old sister that her family had died. Or, the recent silhouette challenge, which actually resulted in perverted people taking advantage of unsuspecting women. Yet, here we are. Another challenge that’s dividing the internet and parents all over. In this particular TikTok trend, people throw water over babies to capture their reactions on camera.
While it might seem completely harmless, and perhaps it is, it’s not very nice to throw water over babies’ faces—all for the name of views on a silly social platform. Mothers partaking in this challenge claim their babies are not being harmed or abused in any way. However, many of their facial expressions tell a far different tale.

As mentioned above, the internet is divided about whether this challenge is amusing or downright cruel. Have a look at some of the videos and decide for yourself.
In the video above, user @the.chanfan throws water over her baby’s face; he throws his arms up and is clearly upset. After comments appeared about him crying at the end, the mother in the video took to the comments herself to assure everyone that he was fine and that he started laughing right afterward.[2]

Much like in the first video, the baby in the video above also appeared really upset. And, again, her mother claims she “laughed right afterward.” She also makes sure to mention that “no babies were harmed.” It does appear to be an immediate defensive statement, doesn’t it?[1]
Is it funny to throw water over babies?
That said, there are in fact some kids who seem to enjoy the challenge! This little girl thought it was great fun! However, the first thing said in the video description kind of makes one think, why would she not be fine if this challenge was just a funny trend?[3]
No matter your thoughts on the matter, one thing is for sure, TikTok has some arguably silly (stupid?) and downright dangerous challenges, and we just hope that moms, parents, and youngsters out there will use their brains before taking part in anything that really could hurt someone, if not themselves.
