Man Abandons Wife with Newborn Triplets, Few Years Later They Accidentally Meet Again – a Short Story

Raising children is difficult – raising triplets even more so, we are sure. But, just because something is scary or difficult, does not mean you should just run away. Our story today, inspired by the readers of AmoMama, tells the tale of a woman who was left to look after not just one, but three babies all on her own.

Young love

Daisy and Shawn were very much in love all through high school, together they both went on to study law, and decided to get married while in their second year studying. They had been a couple for years, so even though they were still young, they felt it was right. Shawn’s mother was not particularly fond of Daisy, but that did not stop Shawn from being with her. Together, they studied, and eventually, Daisy fell pregnant.

At first, Shawn was very excited to learn that his young wife was pregnant. They decided together that she would drop out of law school when the baby was born, and return the following year once the baby was older. Daisy had no idea what a terrible idea that was going to end up being, after all, she was in love. She was happy.

Making changes

Daisy and Shawn eventually went to their first doctor’s appointment. She was now three months pregnant. Together, the young couple cried when they saw and heard their baby’s heartbeat for the first time during the scan. Daisy’s mother was excited too, although she was not too pleased that she’d be giving law school a year break, she understood the changes that had to be made. Shawn’s parents, however, were not pleased that their son was about to become a father. He had not finished law school yet himself, and they were afraid that he would drop out, too. They blamed Daisy for everything and made her feel like she was ruining their son’s life.

Daisy asked Shawn to choose between her and his parents, but of course, Shawn would not do that. So, Daisy had no choice but to put up with the vile people. Slowly, however, as Daisie’s pregnancy progressed, it seemed as though Shawn’s mother had started to get into his mind. Things changed for the worst at her third scan.

Cold feet

Daisy had felt Shawn becoming more distant, and she figured that he was just afraid of becoming a father. So, she did what any loving wife would, and reassured him that all would be just fine. In the back of her mind, she wondered what cruel things Shawn’s parents were saying about her to him, and she hoped that he would not listen to them. She hoped that once their baby arrived he would come around.

It was time for their third pregnancy scan. But nothing could prepare either of the young parents-to-be for the news they would receive that day. As Daisy lay down for her scan, her doctor announced that she’d made a mistake. Daisy was not having a baby, she was having three! Shawn and Daisy looked at one another in shock. Both of them had no idea what to say, but Daisy knew that she needed to be the strong one, and hugged her husband.

That night while Daisy slept, Shawn packed a few of his belongings and left. When Daisy woke up in the morning she tried to call him to no avail. She tried his parents but they merely shrugged her off. Daisy was shocked and heartbroken that Shawn would ever do such a thing to her. She had no idea what to do.

Three babies and a degree

Daisy heard nothing of her husband for the rest of her pregnancy. She was scared, had to drop out of school, and ended up moving back in with her mother. She had no choice. Sadly, Shawn’s parents did not seem to care, nor did they care about their three grandchildren who were soon to be born. Daisy realized she had to do it alone. And when her three little babies were born, it was as if Shawn vanished from her mind completely. She decided that she was strong enough to be able to do it on her own with some of her mom’s help.

Together with her mother, Daisy raised three babies. She eventually returned to law school to finish her degree. She was very proud of what she had achieved. Raising one child alone is hard enough, but three? She was just grateful for her mom. There were times when Shawn appeared in her mind again, but she knew that chapter was over. By the time her children were five years old, she’d finally graduated. She had heard that Shawn had graduated a year earlier too, but she had no idea what university he’d ended up at.

The meeting

Daisy loved being a mom, and she loved being a lawyer. She had managed to beat all odds by getting her degree and quickly climbed the ladder. She had now been working at a very prestigious law firm for three years and was very happy. Shawn rarely crossed her mind. Her children were happy and healthy, and she was very successful. One day, she had been asked to do interviews for her firm. She had no idea who was set up to see her, and before a very busy day doing interviews ended, the final applicant walked through the door. It was Shawn.

Shawn froze as he entered the door, not expecting to see Daisy sitting at the hiring end of the table. She calmly looked at him, stood up, and asked him to take a seat. She opened the folder with his resume inside and looked it over. Neither of them said a word to one another. Shawn glimpsed at a picture frame on Daisy’s desk, it was of their three children. His face reddened and Daisy looked up, right into his eyes. “Well,” she said. “Thank you for stopping in today, but you do not meet the requirements for the position.

Shawn looked confused, he most certainly did possess all the qualifications for the job. Angrily, he told Daisy that just because they had not worked out, did not mean that he was a bad lawyer. He continued to boast about his degree. Daisy shook her head as she reminded her ex-husband how she’d ended up needing to file for abandonment when he refused to sign the divorce papers. “You see, at this firm we don’t just hire based on qualifications, but integrity and loyalty, too.”

People do not change

Angrily, Shawn got up, still insisting that he had changed. At one point, he even suggested meeting the triplets. Daisy laughed. There was no way she was going to allow that to happen. She asked Shawn to leave before she had to call security. Once Shawn had left, she felt sad. She did wish that Shawn had not left them when he did and wondered why he was so desperate for that job. She looked into him and called up the firm he worked, at last, only to find out that he had been put on probation for being flakey and not pitching up to work!

Daisy realized that people do not change, and clearly, Shawn was never the man she thought he was. She counted herself lucky that he did not stay because she would probably never have ended up back in law school or become the strong and successful woman she had. Of course, Shawn never tried to make contact again after that fateful encounter, and she did not care. She tucked her three little ones into bed each night knowing she was the best mother she could be.
