Adopted son repays kind couple who took him in with 7-bedroom mansion

When Jayvee was abandoned as a child, he never thought he would end up where he is today. A successful business manager at a financial company, Jayvee Lazaro Badile currently lives a lifestyle many would be jealous of. Traveling the world, wearing luxury attire, and eating at the finest establishments is his daily routine. However, his life didn’t start out that way. In fact, his life started out pretty much the exact opposite of that.

Adoption

Maximo and Maria lived in Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines, in a small 20-meter shack. Without any children of their own, Maria and Maximo heard upsetting news about Maria’s sister. She was having a child and would be giving it up for adoption. Rather than see a family member go to another home, Maria and Maximo took it upon themselves to adopt the child.

In total, nine family members lived in the small, one-room flat. Even though Maximo and Maria were extremely poor, they took Jayvee in and made him feel at home. Times were difficult, and meals were few and far between. If they were lucky, they would eat rice and salted fish twice a day. Their utilities were always about to be shut off, and eviction was a constant threat. But, they made it work.

My mother was already famous in the neighborhood because she had to ask for loans from so many people.”

Jayvee recalls trying times when his sibling would force him to steal things when he was around 9-years-old, in order to survive. Convenience stores and local eateries would be robbed by him, just to keep his brother happy.

I had no choice because if I disobeyed him he would beat me up.

Time for a Change

One day, Jayvee discovered a letter that changed his life. He stumbled upon the truth about his biological parents and realized he was adopted by his aunt Maria. Knowing how much Maria and Maximo struggled to keep him fed and clothed when they were already in dire straits, Jayvee was furious at his biological parents for abandoning him. At that moment, he made a promise to himself and to his family. He would be better, and he would do better.

He refused to steal things or commit robberies for his brother. And, he was determined to work as hard as he needed to.

Jayvee took up odd jobs here and there, and did everything from washing dishes, to tutoring school kids. He eventually applied for an accounting course at college and was bright enough to get a full scholarship.

After finishing his studies, Jayvee moved on to finding legitimate employment and landed a career in the financial industry. Today, he is the youngest insurance branch manager in the Philippines.

Even though Jayvee came from an adopted family who lived in the slums and had to scrounge together everything they could just to afford rice, he ended up achieving great things. And he knew he owed it all to his family who never left him.

Repaying the Favor

When Nanay and Tatay adopted me, it wasn’t a good life. Nanay is a vendor, Tatay is a porter. Now that I have the chance to give back to them, I will make sure they will live their dreams better than what they could ever imagine,” Jayvee said.

Twenty-eight. This is the number of years my family and I lived in a small shanty in Bocaue, Bulacan. We rented the house for a Php1,000 (about $20) a month. Often, floodwaters entered the house, and we didn’t even have our own water supply.”

Our electricity was also often cut because of poverty. Nine members of my family experienced living in a cramped, dirty, and hot space, with no proper sleeping or eating area. We didn’t have our own proper bathroom and toilet. Our home was the picture of poverty, but also that of a family that worked hard to reach their dreams.”

Jayvee returned the kindness his family showed him by building them their dream home. Even though Maria didn’t ask for anything extravagant, Jayvee went all out with the building plans.

I paid for the house in cash and it was built in a year. It has seven bedrooms, and we didn’t bring anything from the old place except the TV I bought for my family as a Christmas gift earlier.”

The family is living happily ever after, and Jayvee plans to keep showing his gratitude for as long as he can.
